Campgrounds near Mullens, West Virginia
Mullens sits in Wyoming County in the mountains of southern West Virginia, within easy reach of two state parks and the Hatfield-McCoy Trails. Twin Falls Resort State Park is a public recreation area in Wyoming County established in 1964, named for two scenic waterfalls near Cabin Creek that can be reached by a hiking trail. The park spans 3,776 acres of forested mountain terrain and offers a campground with 50 paved sites arranged in two loops.
About half an hour south, Camp Creek State Park and Forest covers roughly 6,000 acres with waterfalls, trout streams, and about 35 miles of trails. Camp Creek has four campgrounds, all with picnic tables, grills, and fire rings. Mash Fork - Camp Creek State Park offers Wi-Fi and a heated bathhouse across 26 trailer and tent sites in a mix of electric, water-and-electric, and full-hookup configurations, while Blue Jay Campground offers 12 rustic sites for tent campers.
For ATV and UTV travelers, Ashland Resort sits on 1,600 acres of private hardwood forest as the largest campground in the Hatfield-McCoy Trail System, with lodges, cottages, cabins, and RV and tent sites. Riverfront ATV Resort and Raleigh County Parks round out the nearby options for RV renters.
Things to do near Mullens
Twin Falls Resort State Park is the anchor activity hub. Activities include twelve scenic hiking trails, picnicking, an indoor swimming pool, and visits to the restored Pioneer Farm. The park also has a sprawling 18-hole, Par 71 championship golf course.
Mash Fork - Camp Creek State Park is built for waterfall hikes and creek fishing. The surrounding park is flanked by Campbell Falls and Mash Fork Falls, and the campground puts tents right next to a flowing stream stocked seasonally with trout. Both falls are accessible via miles of hiking trails that extend into the state forest, and many trails are open to mountain bikes and horses.
ATV riders base out of Ashland Resort. The resort has direct access from campsites and cabins onto the Indian Ridge Trail and connects to the Pinnacle Creek and Pocahontas trail systems, part of hundreds of miles of managed Hatfield-McCoy trails serving Northfork, Bramwell, Mullens, and Pineville.

Southern West Virginia has four distinct seasons with cold winters and warm, humid summers. The area has a humid continental climate, and precipitation is spread relatively evenly through the year, with winter moisture often arriving as snowfall in the higher elevations.
Campground seasons vary by park. Twin Falls Resort State Park operates year-round, one of the few options in the region for winter camping, and one of its two bathhouses is heated for cold-weather use. At Camp Creek, campgrounds are open year-round, weather permitting, and the campground office is closed December through February. Mash Fork Campground keeps a heated bathhouse open all year, while Blue Jay tends to see use mainly in the warmer months.
Peak demand runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when the state park system requires a two-night minimum on weekends. Spring brings wildflowers and high-water waterfalls; fall delivers strong Appalachian foliage and typically the driest weather of the year. Winter travelers should plan for snow, icy secondary roads, and reduced services at all parks.
How to book campsites near Mullens
West Virginia State Parks handle reservations through a single system. Campsites at Twin Falls Resort State Park can be reserved online at wvstateparks.com, by phone through the West Virginia call center, or seasonally at the campground office. A two-night minimum applies on Friday and Saturday weekends during the summer season, and stays are capped at 14 consecutive nights.
Mash Fork - Camp Creek State Park uses the same platform, and sites can be booked up to 12 months in advance. Advance reservations are recommended for the more remote Pack It In, Pack It Out area at Camp Creek.
Ashland Resort books directly through the resort at atvresort.com. Popular summer weekends and any dates tied to ATV events fill early, so RV renters should reserve as soon as travel dates are locked in. Riverfront ATV Resort and Raleigh County Parks also book through their own operators rather than a state portal.
What RV renters should expect
Sites in this part of West Virginia are wooded and mountainous, and hookup levels vary widely by campground. Twin Falls Resort State Park has 50 paved sites in two loops, Foxhunters Point with heavily wooded shaded sites and Dogwood Flats with sunnier sites. Of the 50 sites, 25 offer electric hookups with 30, 20, and 15 amp service, and all sites include grills and picnic tables. A dump station is on site, and some spots are not perfectly level, so leveling blocks are worth packing.
Camp Creek is more limited for larger rigs. At Mash Fork - Camp Creek State Park, 26 sites accommodate tents and trailers with a mix of electric, water-and-electric, and full-hookup options. Blue Jay and Double C do not accept typical RVs.
Ashland Resort caters to trailered ATV rigs, with RV sites ranging from basic water, electric, and TV cable to long full-service pull-throughs. Cell service is spotty in the hollows around Mullens, so download maps before arrival.
