Campgrounds and RV parks near Welch, WV

Welch sits in the mountains of McDowell County in southern West Virginia, deep in the Appalachian coalfields and within reach of the Hatfield-McCoy Trails ATV system. The town serves as a practical base for RV travelers who want to combine off-highway riding with state park camping, river access, and forested backcountry. The closest developed state park campground is Twin Falls Resort State Park, northeast of Welch in Wyoming County near Mullens. Panther State Forest Group Camp, southwest of town, adds a smaller, more rustic option inside a wooded state forest. Private ATV-focused parks including Ashland Resort, Riverfront ATV Resort, and Twin Hollow Campground and Cabins cluster along the trail connectors and provide direct riding access from camp. Most sites in this region are cut into hilly terrain, so RV travelers should plan for narrow mountain roads, tight turns, and steeper grades on the approach. Twin Falls, the largest nearby state park campground, is a common anchor stay for families who want an electrical hookup, a lodge, and hiking within the same park.

Twin Falls Resort State Park is reserved through the West Virginia State Parks system at wvstateparks.com, by phone at 1-833-WV-PARKS, or at the campground contact center. Under state park rules, the maximum length of stay is 14 nights from May 1 through Labor Day. Weekend and holiday minimum-stay requirements may apply on a site-by-site basis, so confirm during booking. Panther State Forest Group Camp is also handled through the state parks system and is set up primarily for organized groups rather than single-family drop-ins. Private parks including Ashland Resort, Riverfront ATV Resort, and Twin Hollow Campground and Cabins take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Hatfield-McCoy trail permits are purchased separately from the trail authority and are required for every rider, regardless of where the RV is parked.
