Campgrounds and RV parks near Williamstown, WV

The signature local attraction is Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park, reached by sternwheeler from Point Park in downtown Parkersburg. The island offers mansion tours, walking trails, wagon rides, and bicycle rentals from spring through fall. Fenton Art Glass, long tied to Williamstown, still draws visitors interested in glass-making heritage and outlet shopping. Outdoor options extend up and down the Ohio River corridor. North Bend State Park east of Parkersburg has hiking and the North Bend Rail Trail, a long converted rail-to-trail route popular with cyclists. Mountwood Park offers mountain biking and a lake for paddling. Across the river in Marietta, Ohio, visitors can tour the Ohio River Museum, walk the historic downtown, and access the Muskingum River for boating and fishing.

The Mid-Ohio Valley has a humid subtropical climate, with summers that are hot and prone to heavy downpours or afternoon thunderstorms. Peak RV season runs from May through October. Summer brings warm, humid days, and river-valley heat can feel heavier than the thermometer suggests. Book well ahead if traveling around Independence Day or Labor Day weekends. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows. Spring wildflowers appear on Blennerhassett Island and along area rail-trails from late March into May, though spring is also among the wettest stretches of the year. Fall foliage typically peaks in mid to late October across the hardwood ridges of Wood and Wirt counties, making it a strong shoulder-season option. Winters are cold and bring regular snowfall. Many private RV parks stay open year-round for extended-stay guests, but seasonal attractions including Blennerhassett Island close through the colder months. Muskingum River Parkway camping closes for the winter from November 1 through March 31.

Roads into Williamstown and Parkersburg are RV-friendly, with Interstate 77 running just east of town and U.S. Route 50 connecting east to Clarksburg and west across the Ohio River. Fuel, groceries, and propane are easy to find near the I-77 exits. Riverside campgrounds along the Ohio can be affected by high-water events, so check current river-stage forecasts before arriving in spring. Terrain around the sites themselves is mostly flat river bottomland, which makes leveling straightforward for most Class A, Class C, and travel-trailer rigs. Expect a quieter, small-town setting rather than a resort atmosphere. Mosquitoes and gnats can be persistent near the water on summer evenings, so bring repellent and screen accessories.
