Campgrounds and RV parks near Eagle Lake, WI

Richard Bong State Recreation Area is the recreational centerpiece. The park offers nearly 30 miles of trails for biking, cross-country skiing, hiking, and ATV riding, along with horseback trails and a special use zone for model airplanes, rockets, and hot air balloons. It is home to the only ATV trail in southeastern Wisconsin, roughly 9 miles across three connected loops, and offers year-round naturalist activities, volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, hunting areas, a nature center, and a lake for boating, fishing, and swimming. For family-focused amenities, Happy Acres Kampground has a swimming pool, fishing pond, mini-golf, disc golf, playgrounds, a dog park, wooded nature trails, and themed weekend activities. Nearby draws include Lake Geneva, the Bristol Renaissance Faire, and Six Flags Great America just across the Illinois border.

The prime RV window in southeastern Wisconsin runs from late May through mid-October. Summer brings warm days, active park programming, and full campground amenities such as pools and camp stores, but it is also when reservations tighten. Book state-park sites early: camping reservations are required and can be made up to 11 months in advance of the planned date of occupancy, and campers must make a reservation before setting up on any site, and popular summer weekends at Richard Bong routinely sell out well ahead. Spring, from April into May, is cool and often wet, with wildflower blooms and quieter trails. Fall delivers reliable color through October, cooler nights, and much easier site availability. Private campgrounds in the area typically operate on a seasonal schedule, opening in spring and closing by late October. Winter access is limited. Richard Bong stays open for day use and hosts snow-based recreation, but full RV camping services shut down, water is turned off at most private grounds, and travelers should plan for cold-weather rigs and limited hookups.

Richard Bong offers a developed state-park experience. The Sunrise Campground offers electric and non-electric campsites as well as some sites accessible for people with disabilities, and campground amenities include a shower building, flush and vault toilets, a dump station, and a playground area. The Sunset Campground mirrors that setup. There are no full hookups, so plan tank management accordingly. Private campgrounds in the area lean toward resort-style stays with pools, planned activities, and longer-term seasonal sites mixed in with transient spots. Expect a friendly, family-heavy crowd on summer weekends, gravel or grass pads, and moderate site spacing. Cell coverage is generally solid across Racine and Kenosha counties. Mosquitoes and ticks are common near prairie and wetland areas, so pack repellent and check for ticks after hikes.
