Campgrounds near Florence, Wisconsin
Florence sits in the far northeast corner of Wisconsin, on the Michigan border where the Brule, Pine, Popple, and Menominee rivers converge near the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. The town is small and services are limited, but the surrounding Florence County and neighboring Iron County, Michigan hold hundreds of lakes, extensive ATV and snowmobile trail networks, and a mix of private RV parks, county-run sites, utility-managed river camps, and national forest campgrounds.
RV travelers typically base out of a private full-service park and use it as a hub for day trips into the forest and along the rivers. Keyes Lake Campground sits a few miles south of Florence on Highway 101 with wooded sites, water and electric hookups, and direct trail access. Rivers Bend RV Resort and Campground and Summer Breeze Campground offer additional options a short drive east near Iron Mountain, Michigan.
For a more rustic stay, Peavy Pond Site 9 - WEPCO occupies a reservoir shoreline in Michigan's Iron County, and Paint River Hills Campground and Cabins provides river-focused sites in the same corridor.
Things to do around Florence
The Wild Rivers Interpretive Center in Florence serves as the visitor hub for the region's state-designated Wild Rivers and provides trip-planning help for paddling the Pine, Popple, and Brule. Fishing is a primary draw: Keyes Lake is a clear 200-acre recreation lake with a public boat launch and swimming beach directly across the road from Keyes Lake Campground, and the Michigamme River reservoir at Peavy Pond Site 9 - WEPCO supports walleye, smallmouth bass, northern pike, and muskellunge.
ATV and UTV riders can access the county trail system directly from several campgrounds, including Keyes Lake Campground. In winter, the same corridors become groomed snowmobile trails. Hiking and skiing are available next door to Keyes Lake Campground at Keyes Peak Ski Hill, and Piers Gorge on the Michigan side offers whitewater viewing and class III rapids.

The prime RV window runs from mid-May through mid-October. Water hookups at most private parks are not turned on until frost risk ends, and many county and forest sites do not open until Memorial Day weekend. Rivers Bend RV Resort and Campground and Summer Breeze Campground follow a standard northwoods season, generally opening in spring and closing by mid-October.
July and August are peak: black fly pressure has eased, lake temperatures are swimmable, and full-hookup sites tend to book weeks out around holiday weekends. Late September brings fall color across the hardwood ridges and much lighter crowds, though nighttime lows drop quickly.
Winter camping is possible at Keyes Lake Campground, which stays open year-round, and pairs with snowmobiling, ice fishing, and skiing at Keyes Peak. Expect deep snow, subzero nights, and limited services in town. Rustic utility sites at Peavy Pond Site 9 - WEPCO have a shorter usable window tied to ice-out and freeze-up.
How to book campgrounds near Florence
Private parks in the area take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Keyes Lake Campground books through its own site and phone line, and holiday weekends typically require a multi-night minimum. Rivers Bend RV Resort and Campground, Summer Breeze Campground, and Paint River Hills Campground and Cabins all reserve directly through the operator.
Florence County parks (Lake Emily and West Bass Lake) use the online reservation system at florencecountyparks.com, though many county sites also operate on a first-come, first-served basis. On the Michigan side, Michigan DNR state park and state forest sites are booked through the state DNR reservation portal up to six months in advance, and a Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry. Peavy Pond Site 9 - WEPCO is part of the WE Energies Wilderness Shores program and is managed by the utility rather than a state portal.
What to expect on the ground
This is a rural, forested region. Cell coverage is spotty once outside the town of Florence, roads narrow quickly, and grocery and fuel stops are limited: plan to provision in Florence, Iron Mountain, or Crystal Falls before heading to a site. Most private parks offer 30- and 50-amp service, dump stations, and Wi-Fi at the office, but signal at individual sites varies.
Expect mosquitoes and black flies from late May into early July, and pack for cool nights even in midsummer. Black bears are present across Florence County and the surrounding national forest, so food and trash should be stored in the RV or in provided lockers. ATV traffic on shared roads is common and legal on many county routes, and quiet hours are enforced at most campgrounds.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Florence%2C%20WisconsinWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Florence, Wisconsin?

fs.usda.gov/recarea/cnnf/recarea/?recid=11842Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in Florence County?
Yes, RV delivery Florence travelers can take advantage of is one of the easiest ways to start your trip stress-free. That's a game-changer if it's your first time renting an RV or you don't want to tow on Highway 2. nps.gov/piro/planyourvisit/directions.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Florence, WI for my rental?
You're spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Florence, WI for RV camping include Keyes Lake Campground (three miles south on Hwy 101 with full water, sewer, electric, and WiFi), Camping In The Clouds (full-service hookups plus an indoor heated pool right off US Highway 2), Lake Emily Park Campground (county-run, electric sites, picnic tables, and fire grates on a quiet lake), West Bass Lake Park Campground (a peaceful Florence County park in the Town of Homestead), and Lost Lake Recreation Area in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest (27 rustic sites at $25 per night). Book county sites through florencecountyparks.com and reserve early for July weekends.
florencecountyparks.com/parks/When is the best time to take an RV trip to Florence, WI?
Late May through early October is the sweet spot for an RV trip in Florence, with daytime highs averaging 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit in summer and crisp 50 to 65 degree days in September. June brings wildflowers and waterfalls roaring along the Pine and Popple Wild Rivers, July and August are perfect for swimming at Keyes Lake, and late September delivers some of the most jaw-dropping fall color in the Midwest as the maples and birches ignite. Winter (December to March) is for snowmobilers and ice anglers; nights routinely drop below zero, so plan accordingly. Local insider tip: aim for the week after Labor Day, fewer bugs, fewer crowds, perfect temps.
weather.gov/grb/I've never rented an RV before. Is Florence a good place to start?
Florence is honestly one of the most beginner-friendly places in Wisconsin to try RVing. Traffic is light, roads like US Highway 2 and County Hwy 101 are wide and well-maintained, and campgrounds are spaced close together so you're not driving long days. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering the propane, slide-outs, water tanks, generator, and dump procedure, so you leave knowing how everything works. If you're still nervous, choose a host who offers delivery and setup so your first time renting an RV is just unlocking the door and pouring a coffee. The Florence community is famously welcoming to first-timers.
wisconsindot.gov/Pages/safety/safety-eng/rv.aspxWhat happens if I break down during my Florence RV trip?
Help is one phone call away. Every motorhome rental Florence booking on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so whether you have a flat near Long Lake or a dead battery at Lost Lake Recreation Area, you can call for a tow, jump, tire change, or fuel delivery any time, day or night. Your host is also a great first call for quirks specific to their RV. Save both numbers in your phone before you leave the driveway, and screenshot the contacts in case you lose signal deep in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I cross into Michigan's Upper Peninsula with my Florence RV rental?
Yes, and you should. The Michigan border sits just north of Florence across the Brule River, and crossing into Iron Mountain or heading up toward Pictured Rocks is one of the best parts of an RV rental Wisconsin trip from this region. No special paperwork is required for interstate travel within the US, and your RVezy renter protection applies on both sides of the state line. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals, and trips into Canada require advance approval from the host, so message before booking if Canada is on your itinerary. Popular UP loops include Iron Mountain, Marquette, and the Porcupine Mountains.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Florence, WI RV road trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest expense after the rental itself, but it's manageable in this region. Gas in Florence County typically runs close to the Wisconsin state average, and most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 miles per gallon while travel trailers behind a pickup average 10 to 14 mpg. For a typical 300-mile loop hitting Keyes Lake, Iron Mountain, and Eagle River, budget roughly $90 to $140 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Florence or Iron Mountain before heading into the national forest, because gas stations thin out fast once you turn onto forest roads. Driving 55 to 60 mph instead of 65 can stretch your tank noticeably.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds around Florence?
For peak summer weekends (mid-June through Labor Day) and the fall color window in late September, reserve at least two to three months ahead, especially for Florence County's Lake Emily and West Bass Lake campgrounds, which fill quickly with locals and ATV riders. Book county sites directly at florencecountyparks.com, and use Recreation.gov for Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest sites like Lost Lake. Midweek arrivals are far easier; you can often snag a waterfront site with just a week's notice on a Tuesday. Local insider tip: if you strike out, call Keyes Lake Campground or Camping In The Clouds directly, since private parks sometimes hold sites that aren't shown online.
recreation.gov/What are the roads like for driving an RV around Florence County?
Driving conditions around Florence are very RV-friendly. US Highway 2 and US Highway 141 are wide, paved, and lightly trafficked, and County Hwy 101 down to Keyes Lake is a smooth, scenic two-lane. The main things to watch for are deer (especially at dawn and dusk), occasional logging trucks, and gravel forest service roads if you venture deep into the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. In winter, snow and ice are serious, so most renters stick to May through October. There are no low bridges or tight urban turns to stress about, which makes RV camping Florence a relaxing experience even with a 30-foot Class C. Check 511 Wisconsin before you roll for current conditions.
511wi.gov/What hookups, dump stations, and water fills can I expect at Florence campgrounds?
You'll find solid infrastructure throughout the area. Keyes Lake Campground offers full hookups (water, sewer, electric, and WiFi), and Camping In The Clouds has primitive and full-service sites with a dump station on property. Florence County's Lake Emily and West Bass Lake parks provide electric hookups, potable water spigots, picnic tables, and fire grates, with shared dump access. Lost Lake Recreation Area in the national forest is rustic with hand pumps and pit toilets. Pro tip: top off fresh water in town before heading into the forest sites, and ask your host to demonstrate the dump procedure during your walkthrough so your first time is smooth.
florencecountyparks.com/parks/What's actually inside the RVs listed in Florence, WI?
More than you'd expect. RVs on RVezy in the Florence area typically come fully equipped with real beds (queens are common in Class C and travel trailers), a kitchen with a fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, an indoor bathroom with toilet and shower, dinette seating with seatbelts, climate control, and propane for heat and cooking. Many include a TV, Bluetooth speakers, outdoor awnings, and onboard generators for boondocking near the Pine River. WiFi varies; Northwoods cell signal can be spotty, so don't count on streaming. Every listing spells out exactly what's included, and you can message the host with any specific question before you book.
travelwisconsin.com/things-to-do/rv-campingWhat add-ons and options can I get with my Florence RV rental?
Hosts make it easy to customize your trip. Popular add-ons for RV rental in Florence include linen and bedding packages, kitchen kits, outdoor camping chairs and tables, generators, bike racks, kayak or canoe carriers (huge for the Pine and Popple Rivers), and propane refills. Pickup and dropoff are usually at the host's location, but many offer RV delivery to area campgrounds for a flat fee. Mileage policies vary by listing, with typical allowances of 100 to 150 miles per day and additional miles available as an upfront package. Check the Add-ons section of each listing and bundle what you need at booking so it is ready in the RV at pickup.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Florence%2C%20WisconsinHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book an RV rental in Florence on RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card; no cash changes hands with the host. A refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card before the trip and released after you return the RV in the same condition. The deposit amount is set per listing and shown before you book. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkthrough at pickup, photograph any existing scuffs, refill fuel and propane as required, and return on time.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Florence in the winter, and is it worth it?
Yes, and for the right traveler it's magical. Florence County is one of Wisconsin's premier winter playgrounds, with hundreds of miles of groomed snowmobile and ATV trails connecting Keyes Lake, Long Lake, and the Spread Eagle Chain right out of town. Some RVezy hosts offer four-season rigs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and shore-power compatibility for campgrounds that stay open year-round like Keyes Lake. Expect daytime highs of 15 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit December through February and overnight lows well below zero, so confirm the RV is winterized for use, not storage. Pair it with shore power, skirting, and a propane top-off, and you've got an unforgettable Northwoods winter basecamp.
