Campgrounds and RV parks near Paddock Lake, WI

Richard Bong State Recreation Area is the main draw for outdoor activity. The park offers nearly 30 miles of trails for biking, cross-country skiing, hiking, and ATV riding, along with horseback trails and a special use zone for model airplanes, rockets, and hot air balloons. The recreation area also has a lake for boating, fishing, and swimming, a nature center with live animals and hands-on exhibits, and hunting areas in season. Families staying at private parks have on-site options too. Happy Acres Kampground in Bristol features a heated swimming pool, a swimming pond and beach, a fishing pond, a petting zoo, mini-golf, a game room, and planned weekend activities. The Chain O' Lakes waterway, reachable via Grass Lake Marina and RV Park, opens up boating, fishing, and paddling across a connected string of lakes in northern Illinois.

The prime RV window runs from late spring through early fall. Happy Acres Kampground operates from May through October, and Grass Lake Marina and RV Park in the Chain O' Lakes area follows a similar spring-through-late-fall pattern. The Kenosha County Fair Association campground at the Kenosha County Fairgrounds hosts Wilmot Raceway, the Kenosha County Fair, and other events during the warm months. Book well ahead for July and August, especially over holiday weekends when fair events, races, and lake traffic peak. Shoulder seasons work well for travelers who want cooler temperatures and easier reservations. May and September bring pleasant days and thinner crowds, though spring can be wet and unsettled. Standard Wisconsin state park hours are 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Richard Bong offers year-round camping reservations, so campers with cold-weather rigs have off-season options. Winter shifts the region toward snow-sport traffic. Wilmot Mountain, just south in Wilmot, operates as a ski and snowboard destination, but most private campgrounds close for the season and services around the lakes wind down. State-park water systems may not run until mid-May.

Richard Bong offers a full-service state-park experience. The Sunrise and Sunset campgrounds each provide electric and non-electric sites, including some accessible for people with disabilities, and campground amenities include shower buildings, flush and vault toilets, dump stations, and playground areas. Sites vary in size and tree cover, and larger rigs should check length limits before booking. Wisconsin state parks do not allow generators except for verified medical need. Private parks in the area lean family-focused with heavier amenities. Expect water and electric or full hookups, pools, playgrounds, and organized weekend activities at parks like Happy Acres, though sewer hookups are not universal and some sites rely on a dump station or honey wagon service. Grass Lake Marina and RV Park sits on the water with marina access, which suits RV travelers combining camping with boating on the Chain O' Lakes. Cell coverage across Kenosha County is generally strong, and grocery, fuel, and dump-station services are available in Bristol, Salem, and Kenosha within a short drive.
