Campgrounds near Somers, Wisconsin
Somers sits in Kenosha County along Lake Michigan in southeastern Wisconsin, roughly midway between Milwaukee and Chicago. The area gives RV travelers quick access to both state-run recreation land and full-service family resorts, with most campgrounds within a 30 to 40 minute drive of town.
Close-in options include Happy Acres Kampground and two Yogi Bear branded resorts in Caledonia: Jellystone Park™ in Caledonia, Wisconsin and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Caledonia. These properties lean family-focused, with pools, cabins, and full-hookup RV sites suited to travelers who want on-site activities rather than a backcountry feel.
For a more traditional public-land stay, Richard Bong State Recreation Area lies west of Somers in Kansasville, and Illinois Beach State Park sits just across the state line along the Lake Michigan shore. Both offer electric sites, dump stations, and swim access, and both fill quickly on summer weekends.
Things to do near Somers
Richard Bong State Recreation Area has nearly 30 miles of trails used for biking, cross-country skiing, hiking, and ATV riding, along with horseback trails and a special use zone for model airplanes, rockets, and hot air balloons. Wolf Lake inside the park is popular for fishing, boating, and kayaking, and there is a sandy swim beach and a nature center with weekend programs.
Illinois Beach State Park stretches roughly 6.5 miles along Lake Michigan and protects the only remaining beach ridge shoreline in Illinois, with swimming, hiking, biking on the Zion Bike Trail, and strong birding through the dunes and marshes.
Families staying at the Caledonia Jellystone parks can use on-site water features, pools, mini-golf, and character events, plus themed weekends across the summer season.

The prime RV window in southeastern Wisconsin runs from late May through early October. Summer brings warm days, Lake Michigan swim conditions, and full programming at family resorts, but it also brings the busiest weekends. Independence Day and Labor Day book out furthest in advance at both public parks and private resorts.
Spring and fall are quieter and cooler. The Illinois Beach campground does not open until April 1, traffic is lighter, and temperatures are still mild, although winds off the lake can be chilly, with highs in the 50s and 60s and lows in the upper 30s to mid-40s. Fall foliage peaks in October and lines up with themed Halloween weekends at the Jellystone resorts.
Winter camping is limited. Adeline Jay Geo-Karis Illinois Beach State Park is open year-round, but the campground closes from January through March. Richard Bong State Recreation Area stays open year-round with reduced amenities and possible snow cover.

A vehicle admission sticker is also required at Wisconsin state properties.
Illinois state parks use ExploreMoreIL. The Illinois Beach campground is open April 1 through November 15, and reservations are accepted only for stays between May 1 and September 30, opening up to 180 days in advance. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Somers,WisconsinDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Somers, Wisconsin?
Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Somers for nearly every motorhome and trailer on RVezy. Wisconsin does not require a special license for typical recreational motorhomes, and peer-to-peer rentals do not approach commercial vehicle thresholds. To book on RVezy, approved drivers are generally 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your identity during booking. International visitors should bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from their home auto association along with their home license. Booking an RV in Somers is low-risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy across the platform. There is a money-back grace period right after you book, and additional refund options depend on how far out from your trip you cancel. You can review the full details on the RVezy Help Center before and after booking. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or helps you rebook with travel credits. Pro tip: lock in your dates early to get the best Kenosha-area inventory, then revisit the details closer to your trip with confidence that flexibility is built in.

Yes, RV delivery Somers is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who would rather skip driving a big rig down I-94. They will level the rig, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. Filter by Delivery on the search page to see which hosts offer it, and message them for a delivery quote based on distance. It turns a campervan rental Somers into a true vacation, no driving stress required.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Somers,WisconsinHow far can I drive on an RV road trip from Somers?

dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/richardbong/recreation/campingWhen is the best time for RV camping in Somers, WI?
Late May through early October is prime time for RV camping Somers, when daytime highs typically sit in the 70s to mid-80s Fahrenheit and Lake Michigan breezes keep evenings pleasant. June and September are sweet spots: warm enough for the beach at Kenosha's Simmons Island Park, cool enough at night that the AC barely runs, and quieter than the July and August peak. Fall foliage is gorgeous in October along the Fox River and the Kettle Moraine. Winter (December to March) brings real cold and lake-effect snow, so most campgrounds close, but a few RVezy hosts rent winterized rigs for hardy ice fishing adventures on inland lakes.
weather.gov/mkx/I have never driven an RV. Will I be okay in Somers?
Yes, Somers is a great place for first time renting an RV because most local roads are flat, well-marked, and far less chaotic than Chicago or Milwaukee traffic. Your RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving tips, dumping, hookups, and the propane system so you are never left guessing. If you would rather skip city driving entirely, choose a host who offers delivery and they will bring the RV to your campsite. Pro tip: for your first trip, book a Class C motorhome or travel trailer under 25 feet. They drive like a large van and fit easily into sites at Richard Bong State Recreation Area.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002558174-For-RentersWhat happens if something goes wrong on the road near Somers?
You are never alone out there. Every RV rental in Somers, WI booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on I-94, a dead battery at the campground, or a tow situation is one phone call away. Your host is also a real person you can message directly with quick questions, like how to relight the water heater pilot. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip through the Help Center. Pro tip: snap photos of the RV at pickup and save your host's number plus the roadside number to your phone before you leave the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Somers RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Interstate travel is welcome, and from Somers you can easily reach Illinois (about 15 minutes south), Michigan, Minnesota, and Iowa with no extra paperwork. Popular routes include Somers to Door County, Somers to the Wisconsin Dells, and Somers to Chicago for a weekend mix of city and lake. Canada trips (such as a Lake Superior loop through Ontario) may be permitted depending on the host and protection coverage, so message the host directly through the listing before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because protection coverage does not extend there. Stick to the US and Canada and you have endless options.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Somers RV trip?
Realistic fuel budgeting makes your trip more relaxing. Class C motorhomes in this area average 8 to 10 miles per gallon (mpg), Class B campervans get 15 to 20 mpg, and a truck towing a travel trailer typically returns 10 to 13 mpg. Wisconsin gas prices generally run close to or below the national average, and there are plenty of large-vehicle-friendly stations along I-94 between Somers and Milwaukee. For a typical 300-mile weekend loop, plan on roughly $100 to $175 in fuel for a Class C, depending on current pump prices. Pro tip: fill up in Wisconsin before crossing into Illinois, where fuel taxes are notably higher.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campsite near Somers?
Book early and you will lock in the best spots. Wisconsin State Park System campsites, including both campgrounds at Richard Bong State Recreation Area, can be reserved up to 11 months in advance through the official Wisconsin State Parks reservation system. Summer weekends and holidays at Bong are typically fully booked within days of opening. For private parks like Happy Acres Kampground or Cliffside Park, aim for 2 to 3 months ahead for summer weekends. Pro tip: line up your RVezy booking first, then reserve the campsite, so you know your rig length and electric needs (most RVs here use 30-amp) before you click confirm.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/campingWhat are local driving conditions like around Somers?
Driving in Somers is refreshingly easy compared to most metro areas. The terrain is flat, I-94 runs right past town with wide lanes and big-rig-friendly shoulders, and most county roads handle RVs without issue. The main thing to watch for is lake-effect weather: sudden fog rolling in off Lake Michigan in spring and fall, plus heavy snow squalls from November through March. Avoid driving into downtown Chicago or tight Milwaukee neighborhoods with anything over 25 feet. Pro tip: check 511wi.gov for real-time road conditions and construction along I-94, which is a busy freight corridor between Chicago and Milwaukee.
511wi.gov/What hookups and amenities will I find at campgrounds near Somers?
Most campgrounds near Somers offer a solid mix of amenities so your trip feels easy. At Richard Bong State Recreation Area, you will find electric sites, shower buildings, flush toilets, a dump station, and a playground. Private parks like Cliffside Park and Happy Acres Kampground offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, and sewer), plus WiFi at some sites. Potable water fill stations at Wisconsin DNR campgrounds typically shut off during the freezing months. Pro tip: ask your RVezy host if they include a sewer hose, drinking-water hose, and electrical adapters in the rental. Most do, which means one less thing to buy.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/richardbong/recreation/campingWhat is included inside a typical RV rental in Somers?
Expect a fully equipped home on wheels. Most RVezy rentals in the Somers area come with a queen bed plus convertible dinette and sofa sleepers (sleeping 4 to 8), a kitchen with a fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with a shower and toilet, climate control with rooftop AC and furnace, and seatbelts for travel passengers. Many listings include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, and an onboard generator for boondocking. WiFi is hit or miss, so plan to use your phone hotspot for streaming. Each listing on RVezy shows exact specs, photos, and a sleeps count, so you can match your family or group precisely. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps to narrow the field fast.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Somers,WisconsinWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about in Somers?
RVezy hosts in Somers offer a long list of helpful add-ons that make life easier: linen and kitchen packages, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, bike racks, generators, and propane top-ups. Delivery and setup is the most popular add-on, especially for the short haul to Richard Bong State Recreation Area. Pickup and drop-off are usually at the host's home, with a thorough walk-through (typically 30 to 45 minutes) of every system. Mileage policies vary: some hosts include a set number of free miles per day, while others offer RV rental with unlimited mileage for an extra fee. All add-on prices and mileage terms are listed transparently on each listing before you book.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Somers,WisconsinHow do payment and the security deposit work for a Somers RV rental?
Payment is simple and secure through the RVezy platform. You pay the trip total when you book using a credit or debit card, and a refundable security deposit is held (not charged) on your card a few days before pickup. The deposit is released back to you after the trip, assuming the RV is returned in the same condition. Money never changes hands directly with the host, which protects both sides. Pro tip: do a thorough walk-around with your host at pickup and snap photos of any existing dings. It speeds up your deposit return and keeps things smooth from day one of your Somers RV trip.
