Discover Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City, surrounded by the Great Salt Lake and the Wasatch Mountains, is the worldwide headquarters for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. With its urban skyscrapers and temple spires, Salt Lake City’s downtown is a blend of a modern society built upon a pioneer foundation.

Salt Lake City is Utah’s most populated city and is more than just a jumping-off point for exploring other parts of the state. The warmest months are between May and September, and with average daytime highs between 70 and 90 degrees, it’s the best time of year to rent an RV.

There isn’t a better way to see the hoodoos, arches, canyons, and monuments of Utah’s five national parks than to visit the parks in a motorhome or trailer. With an RV rental in Salt Lake City, campers can drive to Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Canyonlands, and Capitol Reef national parks in approximately five hours.

RV Campgrounds in Salt Lake City

What’s your family’s camping style? Campers who prefer luxury amenities will feel right at home in a full-hookup site at the Pony Express RV Resort. This pet-friendly campground has a resort store, laundry facility, on-site propane sales, and activities everyone will enjoy like life-size chess, swimming, corn hole, and billiards. The resort is close to downtown Salt Lake City and parts of the Pony Express National Historic Trail.

Campers who want to find an RV campground along the Great Salt Lake will enjoy Antelope Island State Park’s simple setting. Although the campgrounds don’t have hookups, each site has a fire pit and sheltered picnic table and is close to a vault toilet.

Will your itinerary take you to Park City for a few days? You can find a quiet place to camp at Jordanelle State Park. Park City is a summertime hub for camping, hiking, biking, and fishing. It transforms into a magical mountain town during the winter, when skiers, snowshoers, snowmobilers, and dog sledders come to spend time in the snow. The campgrounds at Jordanelle State Park have partial hookup sites with electricity, water, a fire pit, picnic table, and campground access to restrooms, showers, and a dump station. When visiting Park City, leave your rig at the campground, and take advantage of the public transit system.

Things to Do in Salt Lake City

Temple Square is the perfect place to go after picking up your Salt Lake City RV rental. There is so much to see; you can spend a few hours or a few days exploring Utah’s most-visited attraction. Once you arrive at Temple Square, stop by the north or south visitor center to gather information and decide what you’d like to see the most. Temple Square’s points of interest include the Salt Lake Temple grounds, the Tabernacle, the Discovery Center at Family History Library, Joseph Smith Memorial Building, Conference Center, and the Church History Museum. You don’t have to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to visit Temple Square; in fact, people from all over the world visit every year. Since Salt Lake City has an excellent public transportation system, it’s best to park your RV rental at the campground and explore the city using the train, bus, or light rail.

Do you want to see where winter athletes made Olympic history? The 2002 Winter Olympics, held in the Salt Lake City area, still uses the Olympic venues for official training and public activities. In downtown Salt Lake City, bundle up and take the kids to the Olympic Oval to try fun winter sports like curling, hockey, speed skating, and ice skating, or head to Utah Olympic Park, located in Park City. Olympic Park is now a place to learn about Olympic history and try out zip-lining, climbing, and bobsledding.

What’s better than standing on the ground? Flipping upside down! Lagoon Amusement Park is a favorite place to ride roller coasters and merry-go-rounds, play carnival-style games, and get soaked on the water rides. For campers visiting Lagoon, you don’t need to look far to find one of the best RV parks in Salt Lake City because you can stay and play in one location when you book a campsite at Lagoon RV Park and Campground. Since Lagoon is only open during the summer, you want to make sure you visit between Memorial Day weekend through the end of October (weather permitting).
