2020 Ram Promaster 1500
Alpine is my basecamp for the Sierras, and I’m renting it out so others can get the same quiet, easy freedom I get from it. It’s a true four-season build that stays comfortable even in negative temperatures, with real insulation, heat, cooling, and enough power and water to stay off-grid for days.
Everything inside is built to ride silently (no creaks, no rattles, no loose panels). Driving it feels like a big SUV, with 16-17 mpg on average, great visibility, cruise control, and a backup camera. Inside you get a comfortable memory-foam bed, blackout covers, a full kitchen setup, hot water, ventilation, and plenty of storage. The rear garage fits skis, camping gear, and everything else you’d bring for a real trip.
I can also drop the van off at Reno-Tahoe International Airport if you’re flying in.
If you want a simple, reliable, quiet base for Tahoe, the high desert, or anywhere in between, Alpine does exactly what it’s supposed to.
What’s included
• Full kitchen setup: pot, pan, cups, plates, bowls, utensils, and basic cooking essentials
• AeroPress coffee maker + coffee
• Small food processor
• Clean linens and towels
• Street parking for your vehicle during the trip
• Non-bleach cleaning supplies
• Two camping chairs
• Toiletries for two (toothbrushes, toothpaste, lotion, toilet paper, sunscreen)
• Guidebooks for campsites, hot springs, backcountry skiing, and more
Trip recommendation for guests
• For classic Sierra views, head to Emerald Bay or D.L. Bliss. For something quieter, Pyramid Lake is wide-open and peaceful. Carson City has easy hikes and solid coffee.
• A simple starter plan: catch sunset on Mt. Rose Highway, camp overnight at Washoe Lake State Park or Davis Creek, take a morning hike, then make coffee in the van as the sun comes up.
• Northern Nevada also has great hot springs worth checking out.
• For finding dispersed campsites, iOverlander is your best friend (or just ask me)
Other things to note
The systems in the van are simple and I’ll walk you through everything before your trip. I can also drop the van off at Reno-Tahoe International Airport if you’re flying in. The van runs on all-terrain, winter-rated tires, making it a solid choice for ski trips and cold-weather travel.Monthly winter rates are available. Free street parking is available if you pick up the van from my location.
Rules of the road
DRIVING & HANDLING
• The van drives smoothly, but it’s tall and heavy, so give yourself extra space. Make wide turns, avoid sharp maneuvers, slow down on washboard roads, and allow more room for braking. Clearance is strict - nothing under 10 feet. Avoid drive-throughs and low garages.
• Regular unleaded gas only (gas cap on driver’s side, ~25-gallon tank).
• No towing.
• No roof access for any reason.
CLEANING & CARE
• No smoking, vaping, candles, campfire smoke, or greasy frying (or fish frying) inside. These cause damage and odors. Violations carry a $1,000 cleaning fee.
• No bleach products; safe cleaning supplies are provided.
• Do not put food debris down the sink - keep the strainer in place and empty it regularly.
• Interior damage isn’t covered by insurance and will come from the deposit and may exceed the deposit value. Excessive mess or biohazards may exceed it. Heavy cleaning starts at $500.
• Return the van clean, dishes washed, and the tank full ($6/gal if returned low).
TRIPS & PETS
• No Burning Man or playa trips — $2,000 fee if violated.
• No off-roading beyond maintained dirt roads.
• One dog (and only one) allowed, but not on seats or the bed, and never left unattended. Dogs are the only pets permitted.
• 125 miles per day included. Monthly winter rates available upon request.
