2015 Winnebago Class C
I rented this RV with 4 of us and it was an awesome experience! We picked it up in Anchorage after landing and drove it to Seward in the Kenai peninsula. We camped in Seward two nights and one night in Girdwood. The RV provided everything we needed and whatever we needed help with, J provided or helped accommodate us! Filling up the RV with water was simple and emptying the black/grey water was also very easy and not messy to do (it was our first time doing this). We had a full kitchen and bathroom, as well as two beds for the 4 of us so we fit perfectly in this RV. It was very easy to drive for someone who hasn’t drive one before. I would highly recommend renting this RV and will most likely do it again when I come back to Alaska!!

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Soldotna, AK
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Soldotna, AK?
RV rental in Soldotna is more affordable than you might think for an Alaska adventure. Travel trailers typically start around $100 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $200 to $325 per night, and larger Class A rigs run $300 to $450 per night during peak summer. The smartest way to save on your Soldotna RV trip is to book a shoulder-season trip in late May or early September, when salmon are still running but nightly rates drop significantly. Many hosts also offer weekly discounts for stays of 7 nights or more. Pro tip: filter by Instant Book and message multiple hosts to compare add-ons like fishing gear, generators, and bedding bundles.
visitsoldotna.com/What license do I need to rent an RV in Soldotna, Alaska?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Soldotna. Alaska does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal RV use, even for larger Class A motorhomes, as long as the vehicle is under 26,000 pounds (which covers essentially every RV on RVezy). You'll need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID through the booking platform, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from abroad? An International Driving Permit paired with your home license keeps things smooth. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple the Alaska licensing piece really is.
doa.alaska.gov/dmv/akol/cdl/Is insurance and roadside assistance included with my Soldotna RV rental?
Every RV rental in Soldotna booked on RVezy includes a built-in protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the Sterling Highway with real peace of mind. You choose your preferred protection level at checkout (not the host), and it covers most physical damage to the RV during your trip. Roadside assistance comes standard and helps with flat tires, battery jumps, lockouts, and towing, which is reassuring on remote stretches between Soldotna and Cooper Landing where cell service can get spotty. It provides meaningful financial protection so a small hiccup never becomes a big problem.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat is the cancellation policy if my Soldotna RV trip plans change?
Booking your Soldotna RV trip is low-risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy at the platform level, not individual hosts, so you won't see different policies on different listings. There is a grace-period window after booking where you can cancel for a full refund. After that, refund amounts depend on how far out you are from your trip start date. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds you or provides travel credits. If you're unsure about timing, message the host with questions before booking, then lock in your dates with confidence.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Soldotna RV rental?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Soldotna is easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see plenty of hosts who welcome dogs, often for a small cleaning fee. Soldotna is a dream for dogs, with the Kenai River boardwalks at Soldotna Creek Park and Centennial Park offering leashed walking right along the water. The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge headquarters on Ski Hill Road has dog-friendly trails like the Keen-Eye Nature Trail, and most local campgrounds welcome pets on leash. Pro tip: bring a tie-out and bear-aware snacks (kept sealed), since moose and the occasional bear pass through campsites near the river.
fws.gov/refuge/kenaiCan the RV be delivered to me in Soldotna?
Yes, RV delivery in Soldotna is widely available and a fantastic option, especially if you're flying into Kenai Municipal Airport (ENA) about 11 miles away or even Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) about 150 miles north. Many Soldotna hosts will deliver the RV right to your campground at places like Centennial Campground, Edgewater RV Resort, or Diamond M Ranch, then set up the hookups and walk you through every system. Delivery fees usually scale with distance, and some hosts include free delivery within a set radius. This is the easiest path for first-time renters because you skip the driving learning curve and step straight into vacation mode.
visitsoldotna.com/How far can I drive my Soldotna RV rental, and how does mileage work?
You'll have plenty of range for a classic Kenai Peninsula RV trip from Soldotna. Hosts set their own mileage allowances, with many offering 100 to 150 free miles per day and additional miles at $0.35 to $0.50 each, while some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage (look for that filter on RVezy). To put it in perspective, Homer is about 75 miles south, Seward is about 145 miles east, Cooper Landing is roughly 45 miles, and Anchorage is 150 miles north. A relaxed week-long loop typically lands between 400 and 700 miles. If you're planning a bigger road trip from Soldotna, message hosts up front to negotiate a mileage package that fits your route.
travelalaska.com/explore-alaska/itineraries/kenai-peninsula-road-tripWhere are the best campgrounds near Soldotna to park my RV?
Some of the best campgrounds near Soldotna sit right on the world-famous Kenai River. Centennial Campground (city-run, 250+ sites on 121 acres with boardwalk river access) is the local favorite for salmon season. Edgewater RV Resort on Funny River Road offers full hookups directly on the riverbank. Klondike RV Park has 35 full-service sites and accommodates rigs up to 60 feet. River Terrace RV Park on the Sterling Highway puts you steps from downtown, and Diamond M Ranch Resort between Soldotna and Kenai is a family-friendly favorite with cabins, RV sites, and fish-cleaning stations. Pro tip: book Centennial 6+ months ahead for July king-salmon season, when sites disappear faster than the fish.
soldotna.org/departments/parks_recreation/campgrounds.phpWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip to Soldotna?
The sweet spot for RV camping in Soldotna is mid-June through early September, when daytime highs sit between 60 and 70°F, daylight stretches to nearly 19 hours in late June, and the salmon are running. Late June through July is peak king and sockeye salmon season on the Kenai River, August brings silver salmon and slightly fewer crowds, and early September offers crisp air, golden cottonwoods, and bargain pricing. Winter trips are possible but most private RVs are winterized from October through April. If you want the long-daylight magic without the July crowds, aim for the second week of June or the last week of August. You'll have the river practically to yourself.
weather.gov/afc/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay renting one in Soldotna?
You'll be in great shape, even if it's your first time renting an RV in Soldotna. Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to operate the generator, hookups, slide-outs, propane, and water systems before you drive away. Soldotna is one of the easier places in Alaska to learn, since the Sterling Highway through town is wide, two-lane, and well-maintained with plenty of passing lanes, and there are no mountain passes between you and Homer. Start with a Class C motorhome or travel trailer for easier handling. Pro tip: ask your host to demo the dump-station process before you leave, it removes most first-timer anxiety.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy rental in Soldotna includes 24/7 roadside assistance covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing, no matter where you are on the Kenai Peninsula. Your host is also just a message away inside the RVezy app and usually responds quickly for things like a finicky water pump or generator question. RVezy's customer support team is available before, during, and after your trip if you need backup. Pro tip: download offline maps for the stretch between Cooper Landing and Soldotna and keep the host's number saved, since cell service dips in places along the Sterling Highway.
511.alaska.gov/Can I take my Soldotna RV rental on a road trip to Canada or other parts of Alaska?
In-state Alaska travel is wide open, and a Soldotna RV road trip pairs perfectly with destinations like Homer (75 miles south), Seward (145 miles east), Anchorage (150 miles north), Denali National Park (around 390 miles), and Valdez via the Glenn Highway. Cross-border travel into Canada via the Alaska Highway may be allowed depending on the individual host's insurance, so message them directly before booking if Yukon or British Columbia is on your itinerary. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental. Pro tip: the Anchorage-Soldotna-Homer-Seward loop is the most popular Alaska RV circuit and easily fills 7 to 10 days.
travelalaska.com/explore-alaska/itineraries/kenai-peninsula-road-tripWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and what does gas cost in Soldotna?
Plan a realistic fuel budget and you'll cruise stress-free. Class C motorhomes get roughly 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class A rigs 6 to 10 mpg, and truck-towed travel trailers around 10 to 14 mpg. Gas prices in Soldotna typically run $0.40 to $0.80 higher than the U.S. average, so fill up at the larger stations in town (Fred Meyer, Three Bears, or the Soldotna Y) before heading toward Homer or Cooper Landing where prices climb further. For a 600-mile Kenai Peninsula loop in a Class C, budget roughly $300 to $400 in fuel. Pro tip: top off in Soldotna both directions, since it's the cheapest fuel stop on the peninsula.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Soldotna?
Book early and your Soldotna RV trip slots together effortlessly. For July (peak salmon season), reserve campgrounds 4 to 6 months ahead, especially riverside spots at Centennial Campground, Edgewater RV Resort, and Kenai Riverbend Campground. Alaska State Parks campgrounds like Bing's Landing and Izaak Walton in nearby Sterling open reservations through ReserveAmerica typically 6 months in advance. For shoulder season (late May or September), 2 to 4 weeks is usually fine. Pro tip: if you strike out on river-frontage sites, Diamond M Ranch and Klondike RV Park between Soldotna and Kenai usually have more availability and the same easy access to fishing.
dnr.alaska.gov/parks/What are the driving conditions like around Soldotna?
Driving an RV around Soldotna is genuinely pleasant. The Sterling Highway through town is a well-maintained two-lane road with frequent passing lanes, no mountain passes, and gentle terrain, which is a relief compared to driving in the Lower 48 Rockies. Watch for moose on the road at dawn and dusk year-round, slow down for the Kenai River bridge construction zones in summer, and be ready for sudden weather shifts (sun to rain in 20 minutes is normal). Check 511.alaska.gov before heading out for real-time construction and closure updates. Pro tip: most road work happens June through August, so build a little buffer into long driving days during peak summer.
511.alaska.gov/What hookups and amenities will I find at Soldotna campgrounds?
Most private RV parks in and around Soldotna offer full hookups (30 and 50 amp electric, water, and sewer), with potable water fills and dump stations on site. Edgewater RV Resort, Klondike RV Park, and River Terrace all offer 50-amp service for larger rigs. City-run Centennial Campground has water, restrooms, fire pits, and a fish-cleaning station, though note the on-site dump station is currently out of service, so plan to dump at Fred Meyer (free with potable water) or Three Bears in town. Wi-Fi is hit-or-miss at riverside parks, so download maps and entertainment before you arrive. Pro tip: most parks include fish-cleaning stations with running water, a true local touch.
soldotna.org/departments/parks_recreation/campgrounds.phpWhat features and amenities come standard in a Soldotna RV rental?
Motorhome and campervan rentals in Soldotna on RVezy come well-equipped for Alaska adventures. Expect comfortable beds (typically sleeping 2 to 8), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and cookware, a bathroom with shower and toilet, heating (essential here, even in summer), and seatbelts for everyone traveling. Most rentals include a generator or solar setup, freshwater and grey/black tanks, and propane for cooking. Many Soldotna hosts also stock fishing gear, bear spray, cold-weather bedding, and rain gear, since this is salmon country. Wi-Fi and TV vary by listing. Pro tip: filter for what matters most to you (generator, bike rack, sleeps 6+) and read the amenities checklist carefully before booking.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Soldotna%2C%20AlaskaWhat add-ons and options can I get with my Soldotna RV rental?
Soldotna hosts offer some of the most adventure-ready add-ons on RVezy. Common options include fishing rod and tackle kits ($25 to $75), waders, bear spray, camp chairs and tables, generators, bedding and linen packages ($25 to $50 per person), bike racks, and even kayak or paddleboard add-ons. Pickup is usually at the host's home base in Soldotna with a 30 to 60-minute walkthrough, and return is at the same location, though delivery and pickup at Kenai Municipal Airport (ENA) is often available for an extra fee. Mileage policies vary by listing, with many offering 100 free miles per day. Pro tip: ask for a fishing-gear bundle, locals know exactly what works on the Kenai River.
visitsoldotna.com/How do payments and the security deposit work for a Soldotna RV rental?
Payment for your RV rental in Soldotna is handled entirely through RVezy, with no cash exchanged with the host. You'll pay the rental total at booking, and a refundable security deposit (set by the host and separate from your booking payment) is placed on hold before your trip starts, then released after your return assuming no damage. To keep things smooth, do a thorough walk-around at pickup with your host, take date-stamped photos and video, and document the fuel level, propane, and tank levels. Return the RV clean, with tanks dumped if required, and at the same fuel level. Pro tip: ask your host upfront about their cleaning expectations to keep your deposit refund stress-free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Soldotna during winter or shoulder season?
Yes, winter and shoulder-season RV rental in Soldotna is possible and can be magical if you're prepared. Some hosts keep winter-capable rigs available October through April with heated holding tanks, skirting, and full furnaces, which is what you need when Soldotna nights routinely drop into the teens or single digits. You'll want a campground with year-round shore power (Edgewater and Diamond M Ranch operate year-round) since boondocking in deep cold is tough on systems. Expect short daylight (just under 6 hours in December) but spectacular northern lights viewing on clear nights. Pro tip: message hosts directly to confirm winterization, and ask about engine block heaters and snow tires before booking a cold-weather Kenai trip.
