This is our first time renting a travel trailer and was naturally nervous about how it was going to go. Any anxiety disappeared immediately when meeting Andrew and his family. On pickup day they were nice, helpful, and even excited for us to use their trailer. They kept in communication during the trip and made sure all went well for our 6 hours drive up to the North Coast of CA. Now for the trailer. On pickup, the trailer was clean and well stocked. It is super nice with a large pop out that really opens up the main area when out. It's perfect for a family of 4. The front bed is comfy and the bunk beds are huge that have space for 2 on each with the only caveat that the top bunk is too high from the floor and hard to get in and out of even with a step stool provided. We mainly used it clothing storage with the kids sleeping on the bottom together. Storage throughout the trailer is plentiful and the fridge/freeze stayed cold the entire time. We were dry camping so we were very reserved with using water from the tank in fear of filling up the grey/black tanks. We pretty much just used the toilet and on the last day of our 6th day of camping we barely hit 1/3 on both tanks. The trailer had everything to empty tanks along with gloves. Andrew labeled everything so there wasn't any confusion. We towed the trailer with a 1/2 Chevy Trailboss with the 3.0 diesel no problem once we adjusted the sway/leveling bars to match the truck. I believe Andrew tows with a 3/4 ton and the tow system was set to match that size truck. We enjoyed using Andrews trailer and wouldn't hesitate to use it again the the future. If you're on the fence, I hope this review helps. Thanks Andrew!

We loved driving this van up to the redwoods with our basset hound! Everything was very new, we felt comfortable in the van. My boyfriend is 6’2 and our basset hound is big, the inside bed was a bit snug so we all fit comfortably on the bed at the top- it was so nice having that as an option. The generator, stove, inside fans and lighting worked great. The only issue we came across was we needed a hookup in order to use the running water for sink and shower- which our campsites did not have. We liked the screen for the van door to keep mosquitos and bugs out. The cabinets and drawers fit all our supplies for an 5 day trip and there was a dresser which was a nice bonus. The only draw back was the drawers opened and closed while driving, so to help with this we placed tape and zip ties to keep them still and closed. Overall we had a great experience with this van and appreciate the quick communication Le had with us.

The Solis gave us a great variety of options in our travels down the coast. We stayed at some campgrounds along the way but also did a lot of dispersed camping in some amazing locations. Mark was great and I want to thank him publicly for his flexibility

Overall our experience was good. This RV has obviously been on many trips, but it’s a sturdy, reliable vehicle. This was our first RV trip as a family and we didn’t quite get the introduction to all the nuances that we were hoping for but we figured things out with help from others.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Klamath, CA

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Klamath, CA?

An RV rental in Klamath, CA is one of the most affordable ways to experience the Redwood Coast. Expect roughly $95 to $175 per night for a campervan or small travel trailer, $150 to $250 for a Class C motorhome, and $250 to $400 per night for a Class A. What kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Klamath?

Good news: a regular Class C driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Klamath for the vast majority of motorhomes on RVezy. Per the California DMV, your standard license covers any housecar 40 feet or less, plus most travel trailers and fifth wheels under 10,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). No special endorsement, no CDL, no extra test. You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? What is the cancellation policy if my Klamath RV trip plans change?

Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy on every reservation (not the host), and there's a money-back grace period right after you book so you can reserve with confidence. The exact terms depend on factors like how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date. You won't see different policies on different listings because this is handled at the platform level. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds guests or provides travel credits. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best Klamath RV rental for redwood season, and reach out to RVezy support before your trip date if plans change and they'll walk you through your options.

Can I bring my dog on a Klamath RV rental?

Absolutely, a pet-friendly RV rental Klamath trip is one of the best ways to road trip with your dog. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to instantly see hosts who welcome four-legged guests, and message them directly with your dog's size and breed before booking. Just know that dogs are not allowed on most trails inside Redwood National and State Parks, including Lady Bird Johnson Grove, but they are welcome at developed campgrounds, paved roads, and on leash at beaches like Crescent Beach and Wilson Beach (False Klamath Cove). Pro tip: pair your stay with a drive on the Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway, where pups can ride along while you spot Roosevelt elk grazing in Elk Meadow.

Can the RV be delivered right to my campground in Klamath?

Yes, RV delivery in Klamath is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's a game-changer if you've never driven a motorhome. Many local hosts will drive the RV to spots like Mystic Forest RV Park, Kamp Klamath RV Park, Redwood RV Park, or even Mill Creek Campground in Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system. You arrive, unpack, and start exploring. Filter for Delivery on the destination page and message hosts to confirm your campground address and any delivery fee (typically based on mileage). Pro tip: delivery is gold for first-time RV renters and families who'd rather hike redwoods than back into a tight forest site.

How far can I drive, and do any rentals offer unlimited mileage?

You've got plenty of range to explore on a Klamath RV trip. Each host sets a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 free miles per day), with extra miles billed at a small per-mile rate. Some Klamath-area hosts even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is perfect if you're road-tripping the full redwood corridor. Popular drives from Klamath include Crescent City (20 miles north), Eureka (75 miles south), Brookings, Oregon (40 miles north), Crater Lake National Park (about 230 miles), and a Highway 101 RV road trip from Klamath down to San Francisco (about 330 miles). Pro tip: check the listing's mileage policy before booking and ask the host about a multi-day mileage bundle for longer loops.

Where are the best campgrounds near Klamath, CA for an RV?

You're spoiled for choice when RV camping Klamath. The best campgrounds near Klamath include Mystic Forest RV Park (5 miles north of town, full hookups under towering redwoods), Kamp Klamath RV Park & Campground (along the Klamath River with full hookups and a half-mile walk to the beach), Redwood RV Park (riverside sites, glamping tents, and boat slips), Klamath River RV Park (gated, riverside, well-maintained), and Mill Creek Campground in Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park (145 sites among second-growth redwoods, $35/night, dry camping with a dump station). Pro tip: book the state park sites through ReserveCalifornia up to six months ahead since Mill Creek only operates roughly May through September.

When is the best time to visit Klamath in an RV?

Klamath has a mild Mediterranean coastal climate, so the RV season runs almost year-round. The sweet spot is late May through early October, when daytime highs sit around 64 to 68°F and rainfall is minimal. July and August are the warmest (and busiest) months, while June often brings coastal fog locals call the marine layer, which actually keeps the redwoods misty and magical. Winters are cool and very wet, with January highs around 52°F and the area receiving about 45 inches of rain annually. Pro tip: September is the local insider's favorite month for an RV rental Klamath trip, as crowds thin, fog lifts, and the Klamath River salmon run kicks off in earnest.

I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving around Klamath?

You'll do great. First time renting an RV in Klamath is easier than most people expect because Highway 101 through Del Norte County is well-maintained, RV-friendly, and gorgeous. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving, generator, water, propane, and dump procedures, and you can text them anytime during your trip with questions. The biggest local tips: take the Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway slowly (it has tight curves), watch for elk on the road near Elk Meadow, and avoid the narrow Howland Hill Road in larger rigs. Pro tip: book a Class B campervan rental Klamath if you want the easiest possible drive, or choose delivery so the host parks it for you.

What happens if my RV breaks down on the road?

You're never stranded. Every motorhome rental in Klamath booked on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire, dead battery, lockout, or mechanical issue is one phone call away from help. Cell coverage along Highway 101 between Klamath and Crescent City is generally solid, though it can drop inside Prairie Creek and Jedediah Smith Redwoods. If something goes wrong, contact roadside assistance first, then message your host and RVezy support so everyone is in the loop. Pro tip: snap a photo of the nearest mile marker or highway exit before you call, it helps the dispatch team route a tech to you faster on remote stretches.

Can I take my Klamath RV rental into Oregon or across the Mexican border?

Oregon is fair game and a fantastic add-on, since Brookings is just 40 miles north of Klamath on Highway 101 and Crater Lake National Park is about a 4.5-hour drive. Most RVezy hosts allow trips into Oregon and Washington, but always confirm with your host through the listing message thread before booking, since some set state limits. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend across the border. Pro tip: a popular RV road trip from Klamath loops north to Gold Beach and Bandon, OR for stunning sea stacks, then back south through Jedediah Smith Redwoods, all within 200 miles and easy to do in a long weekend.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validity

What should I budget for fuel on a Klamath RV trip?

Fuel is the biggest variable, but it's manageable with a little planning. Class B campervans get roughly 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A rigs 6 to 9 MPG. California gas prices in Del Norte and Humboldt counties typically run $0.30 to $0.60 above the national average, so fueling up just over the Oregon border in Brookings can save real money on a longer loop. For a 4-night family RV trip Klamath itinerary covering 400 miles in a Class C, plan on roughly $180 to $240 in fuel. Pro tip: the Chevron and 76 stations in Crescent City have the easiest big-rig pull-throughs nearby, much easier than tighter pumps along Highway 101.
energy.ca.gov/data-reports/energy-almanac/transportation-energy/california-gasoline-data-facts-and-statistics

How far in advance should I book a campground near Klamath?

Reserve early and you'll lock in the best sites. For Mill Creek Campground in Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park and Elk Prairie Campground in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, reservations open 6 months in advance through ReserveCalifornia, and summer weekends often book up the day they're released. Privately-owned parks like Mystic Forest, Kamp Klamath, and Redwood RV Park are a bit more flexible, but 4 to 8 weeks ahead is smart for July and August. Pro tip: if you strike out on weekends, midweek arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) are far easier to snag, and several Klamath hosts offer delivery so you can scoop up first-come first-served sites at Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, just 25 miles up Highway 199.
reservecalifornia.com/

What are the local driving conditions like in and around Klamath?

Driving around Klamath is scenic and very RV-friendly, but a few local quirks are worth knowing. Highway 101 is the main route and is in great shape, with two clearly marked lanes and turnouts for slower vehicles. The Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway and Coastal Drive feature tight curves and a few low-clearance overhangs from old-growth redwood limbs, so check your rig height (most local rentals are 10 to 11 feet tall). Howland Hill Road is unpaved and not suitable for any RV. Coastal fog can roll in thick during summer mornings, so use low-beam headlights. Pro tip: fill up in Crescent City before heading inland, gas stations thin out fast once you leave the 101 corridor.
nps.gov/redw/planyourvisit/driving-tour-of-the-parks.htm

What hookups and dump stations should I expect at Klamath campgrounds?

You'll find a great mix. Private parks like Mystic Forest RV Park, Kamp Klamath, Redwood RV Park, and Klamath River RV Park typically offer full hookups (30 and 50 amp electric, water, and sewer) plus Wi-Fi, laundry, and hot showers. State park campgrounds like Mill Creek and Elk Prairie are dry camping (no hookups), but they have potable water fill stations, flush toilets, coin-operated showers, and an RV sanitation dump station on site. The nearest large dump stations outside campgrounds are in Crescent City. Pro tip: top off your fresh water and dump tanks before heading into Redwood National and State Parks for any 2 to 3 night stretch, especially if you're camping at Gold Bluffs Beach where access is via a narrow unpaved road.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=28115

What features and amenities come standard in a Klamath RV rental?

Klamath RV rentals are built for comfort. Most listings include a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a wet or dry bathroom with toilet and shower, a queen or king bed plus convertible dinette and bunk options, climate control via furnace and air conditioner, a propane system, and seatbelts for every passenger. Many rigs add a generator, solar panels, outdoor speakers, awnings, and a TV with streaming-ready setup. Wi-Fi is typically through the host's mobile hotspot or your own phone. Pro tip: when comparing motorhome rental Klamath listings, filter by Sleeps to match your group size, and message the host to confirm seatbelted seats if you're traveling with kids in car seats, especially on Class A rigs.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safety

What add-ons, pickup options, and mileage policies are common?

Klamath hosts offer a flexible menu of add-ons to customize your trip. Popular extras include camping kitchen kits ($25 to $75), bedding and linen packages ($30 to $60), generator hours, bike racks, kayak/SUP mounts, propane fills, and pet cleaning fees. Pickup is usually at the host's home base in or near Klamath, Crescent City, or McKinleyville, with delivery available on many listings (great if you're flying into Del Norte County Regional Airport or Arcata-Eureka). Mileage policies typically include 100 to 150 free miles per day with a small per-mile overage, and some hosts offer unlimited mileage upgrades. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a kitchen kit for the easiest possible Klamath RV trip, you'll literally just show up with groceries.

How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book a rent an RV in Klamath listing, RVezy charges your card for the rental total (nightly rate, fees, protection plan, and any add-ons) through the platform, no cash is exchanged with the host. A refundable security deposit is handled separately as a hold on your card before the trip, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV. As long as you return the rig on time, in similar condition, and within the agreed mileage and generator hours, the hold is released after your trip. Pro tip: do a thorough walk-through video at pickup and drop-off (timestamped on your phone), it's the easiest way to avoid any deposit disputes after your Redwood Coast adventure.

Where can I park or stay overnight in an RV around Klamath?

Where to park an RV in Klamath is refreshingly simple, you have great legal options close to the redwoods. Overnight parking is not allowed at Redwood National and State Parks trailheads or pullouts on the Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway, and there's no overnight parking at most Caltrans rest areas in Del Norte County beyond an 8-hour rest limit. Stick to designated campgrounds: Mystic Forest, Kamp Klamath, Redwood RV Park, Klamath River RV Park, Mill Creek (state park), and Jedediah Smith (about 25 miles north). For free dispersed camping, Six Rivers National Forest north of Crescent City offers options. Pro tip: the Crescent City Walmart on US-101 has historically been RV-friendly for a single overnight, always check with the manager on duty first.
