2019 Other Class B
This was my first time renting a Class B, and Susan and Terry were welcoming of that fact and made it easy. It’s a very well done conversion with lots of room (and cost) saving ideas, and manageable (no frills) technology. The ride itself is comfortable. The benches fold into a big bed that runs length wise. I used a yoga mat and an opened sleeping bag (provided) to close the little gap in the center, worked perfectly. Great interior lighting, sound system, finishes, screens, blackout coverings, etc. A/C for the space is great. Great value, easy in and out, and free parking at pick-up. Definitely a positive first impression with Class B vans.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Mountain City, TN?

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Mountain City. Tennessee does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal RVs, including large Class A motorhomes and fifth wheels. You'll just need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID securely through the booking platform. Visiting from outside the US? An International Driving Permit (IDP) paired with your home license works perfectly. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple it is, which means more time planning your scenic drive along the Cherohala Skyway or Highway 421.

What happens if I need to cancel my Mountain City RV rental?

Plans change, and RVezy has you covered with a clear cancellation policy that applies to every booking. RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation terms, and the refundable amount depends on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date. You will see the full cancellation details during checkout and inside your RVezy account before you confirm. If a host cancels on you, RVezy issues a refund or travel credit. Tip: book early for fall foliage in October, when Mountain City color peaks in mid to late October and the best rigs go fast.

Can I bring my dog on a Mountain City RV trip?

Yes, pet-friendly RV rental Mountain City options are easy to find on RVezy. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you will see rigs whose hosts welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Watauga Lake shoreline day-use areas also welcome leashed pups. Tip: message the host before booking to mention your dog's size and breed, since most owners appreciate the heads-up and respond quickly through the RVezy app.

Can the RV be delivered to my campground in Mountain City?

Yes, RV delivery Mountain City is a popular option on RVezy, especially for first-timers. Many local hosts will tow the trailer or drive the motorhome directly to your campsite at Roan Mountain State Park, Watauga Point Recreation Area, or a private RV park, then level it, hook up water and electric, and walk you through every system. That means zero driving stress for you and a fully set-up basecamp on arrival. Delivery fees are typically based on distance from the host's location. Filter listings by Delivery to see available options and view the host's specific delivery range and pricing right on the listing page.

How far can I drive on a Mountain City RV rental, and is unlimited mileage available?

You have plenty of range for a great Mountain City RV trip. Each host sets their own mileage policy, and many offer generous daily allowances (often 100 to 150 free miles per day) with reasonable per-mile rates beyond that. RV rental with unlimited mileage shows up on select listings too: filter or scan the listing page to spot them. From Mountain City you are about 45 minutes to Boone, NC, 30 minutes to Damascus, VA, around 1.5 hours to Bristol Motor Speedway, and roughly 3 hours to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. What are the best campgrounds near Mountain City, TN?

You have great options for RV camping Mountain City. Roan Mountain State Park (about 45 minutes south) offers RV sites with water and electric hookups beneath spruce-fir forests at higher elevation. Watauga Point Recreation Area on Watauga Lake provides shaded lakeside sites perfect for swimming and kayaking. Cardens Bluff Campground, also on Watauga Lake, has water-view sites managed by the US Forest Service. Backbone Rock Recreation Area near Shady Valley is a smaller, quieter option close to trout streams. Tip: Roan Mountain books up fast for the June rhododendron bloom and fall color season, so reserve at least 4 to 6 months ahead.

When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Mountain City, TN?

Mountain City has four genuinely distinct seasons thanks to its 2,400-foot elevation in the Appalachian Highlands. Late April through June is gorgeous with wildflowers and the famous Catawba rhododendron bloom on Roan Mountain in mid-June (highs in the 70s°F). July and August are mild compared to lowland Tennessee, with highs around 80°F. Mid-September through late October is peak season for fall foliage — arguably the best time to rent an RV in Mountain City, with crisp 60°F days and brilliant color. Winters are cold with occasional snow (lows in the 20s°F), but several hosts rent year-round for cozy cabin-style getaways. Insider tip: aim for the week after Columbus Day for peak leaves and thinner crowds.

I have never rented an RV before, will I be okay driving in the Mountain City area?

You will do great, and you are not alone: first time renting an RV is the norm here, not the exception. Every RVezy host gives a hands-on orientation at pickup covering driving, leveling, hookups, awnings, and waste tanks, and you can text them during the trip with questions. Around Mountain City, the main routes (Highway 421 and Highway 67) are well-maintained two-lane roads with some curves and grades and are manageable in a Class C or travel trailer. If you are nervous about mountain driving, choose a smaller campervan or book delivery so the RV is already set up when you arrive. Tip: avoid tight switchbacks like Snake Mountain Road in larger rigs.

What if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?

You are never stranded. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and tow service. If something mechanical comes up while you are exploring Watauga Lake or driving Highway 421 (locally known as The Snake), one phone call gets help dispatched to your location. Your host is also a direct text away for quick troubleshooting, since they know their RV better than anyone. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip too. Tip: take photos of every system during your pickup walkthrough so you have a visual reference if you need to call for help later.

Can I take my Mountain City RV rental across state lines or into Canada?

Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy rentals, which makes Mountain City an excellent launchpad. You are minutes from the North Carolina and Virginia borders, so an RV road trip from Mountain City easily reaches Boone and Asheville, NC, the Blue Ridge Parkway, or Damascus and Abingdon, VA. Cross-border travel into Canada depends on each host's insurance coverage, so message the host before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because coverage does not extend there. A popular regional loop is Mountain City to Asheville to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, a classic Southern Appalachian itinerary that works well over 3 to 4 days.

What kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?

Budgeting fuel for a Mountain City RV trip is straightforward. Travel trailers do not burn their own fuel, so you are paying for your tow vehicle, typically 10 to 14 MPG. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, and large Class A rigs run 6 to 10 MPG. Tennessee gas prices tend to run a bit below the national average, and Mountain City has several stations along Highway 421. Diesel is available at larger truck stops in nearby Boone, NC and Elizabethton, TN. Tip: top off in town before heading toward Roan Mountain or Shady Valley, where stations are spaced 20+ miles apart.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Mountain City?

Booking early is the move, especially for prime weekends. Tennessee State Parks like Roan Mountain open reservations up to 12 months in advance, and the campground fills quickly for the June rhododendron bloom and October foliage weekends — aim for 4 to 6 months ahead minimum. US Forest Service sites at Watauga Lake (Cardens Bluff, Watauga Point) book through Recreation.gov, typically released 6 months out. Private RV parks in the area are often easier to grab last-minute. If you're flexible, midweek arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) almost always have openings. Pro tip: combine an RVezy delivery with a state park reservation — you get the scenic site without having to drive the rig yourself.

What are the driving conditions like around Mountain City, TN?

Driving in and around Mountain City is scenic and very manageable with a little preparation. The main corridors (Highway 421, Highway 67, and Highway 91) are paved two-lane mountain roads with moderate curves and grades climbing to around 3,500 feet. Traffic is light outside of fall color weekends. Watch for Highway 421 (locally known as The Snake) between Mountain City and Bristol, which features hundreds of curves over about 12 miles and is best in smaller rigs. Winter can bring ice and snow from December through February, so check Tennessee 511 before traveling. Tip: fuel up, empty waste tanks before climbing, and use a lower gear on long descents to save your brakes.

What hookups and amenities should I expect at campgrounds near Mountain City?

Most campgrounds near Mountain City offer water and 30/50-amp electric hookups, and many include sewer at premium sites. Roan Mountain State Park has water and electric at all 87 RV sites plus a centrally located dump station and potable water fill. Watauga Point and Cardens Bluff (US Forest Service) typically offer electric and water with a shared dump station. Private parks like Mountain Glen RV Park usually offer full hookups including sewer and Wi-Fi. Need to dump or refill mid-trip? The dump station at Roan Mountain State Park is open to the public for a small fee. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot freshwater hose and a 30-to-50-amp adapter so you're ready for any site.

What is typically included inside an RV rental in Mountain City?

Most motorhome rental Mountain City listings come fully equipped so you can roll straight to the campsite. Expect a queen or king bed, convertible dinette or bunk beds, a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and basic cookware, plus a bathroom with toilet and shower in Class B, C, and larger trailers. Air conditioning, propane furnace, and a TV are standard in most rigs. Many include a generator, outdoor speakers, or a backup camera. Cell coverage on Verizon and AT&T is generally decent along Highway 421, though Wi-Fi can be limited in the mountains. Tip: check the listing's amenity list for sheets, towels, and camp chairs, since many hosts include them and others offer them as inexpensive add-ons.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Mountain%20City%2C%20Tennessee

What add-ons and pickup options are available when I rent an RV in Mountain City?

Hosts in the Mountain City area offer plenty of helpful add-ons to customize your trip. Common options include linen and towel packages, camp chairs and outdoor tables, generators, bike racks, kayak racks, Starlink internet, propane refills, and full provisioning kits. Pickup is usually at the host's home or a nearby meeting spot, and many hosts offer delivery to local campgrounds including Roan Mountain State Park and Watauga Lake. Mileage policies vary by listing, with daily free-mile allowances and clear per-mile rates beyond that shown on the listing page. Tip: bundling delivery, setup, and linens often costs less than fuel for a self-drive trip, especially in a Class C.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Mountain%20City%2C%20Tennessee

How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host. Your booking total covers the nightly rate, RVezy service fees, your chosen protection plan, and any add-ons. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment (amount varies by RV and trip length) and released after the trip once the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkthrough at pickup and dropoff, take date-stamped photos of the interior and exterior, and report anything unusual right away through the RVezy app. Tip: keep all communication inside the app so you have a clear record.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-works

Can I rent an RV in Mountain City in the winter, and how do cold-weather rigs work?

Yes, winter RV rentals are available in Mountain City, and the snowy Appalachian setting is genuinely magical. Look for listings tagged as four-season or with heated holding tanks, an enclosed underbelly, and a working propane furnace, since overnight lows can dip into the teens from December through February. Many winter renters book sites with full shore power at private parks like Mountain Glen RV Park so they can run an electric space heater alongside the furnace. Roan Mountain State Park's campground typically operates with limited winter services, so confirm availability before booking. Tip: ask the host for skirting or a heated water hose if you are staying put for several nights, which makes cold-weather camping dramatically more comfortable.
