Josh was great, super friendly and the trailer was clean and well organized with tons of stuff he and his family added to make the trip even better. He provided plenty of chairs and an outdoor carpet, also a play pen for the dogs, everything needed in the kitchen plus games for more fun. 10/10 would recommend renting from him. There was the smallest mishap at the beginning of the trip and his went literally out of his way to fix it, overall it was the perfect experience. Thank you Josh!

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Lyle, WA

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Lyle, WA?

RV rental in Lyle is approachable for a Columbia River Gorge destination. On RVezy, travel trailers typically run about $90 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes range from roughly $160 to $260, and larger Class A rigs land between $250 and $400. Because Lyle is a small community in Klickitat County, you can often find better value here than across the river in Hood River. To find a cheap RV rental in Lyle, book midweek, target shoulder season (April to mid-June or September to October), and use Instant Book to compare confirmed pricing quickly. Many hosts also bundle add-ons like camp chairs or bedding into the nightly rate.

What license do I need to rent an RV in Lyle, Washington?

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Lyle. The Washington State Department of Licensing does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement for the motorhomes you'll find on RVezy, including Class A, Class B campervans, and Class C rigs. Approved RVezy drivers are generally 25 or older and complete a quick ID verification when you book. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP). No Washington-specific paperwork, no test, no surprises at pickup.

Is my Lyle RV rental protected if something goes wrong?

Yes, every RVezy booking in Lyle includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can explore the gorge with confidence. During checkout you choose the level of coverage that fits your trip, from a basic plan to a premium tier with a lower deductible. The protection plan covers eligible accidental damage to the RV, which is reassuring for first-time renters heading into the often-windy Columbia River Gorge. Roadside help is one call away whether you're parked at Doug's Beach or driving WA-14.

What if I need to cancel my Lyle RV trip?

Booking is low-risk: RVezy applies a clear, standardized cancellation policy to every reservation, including a grace period right after booking so you can lock in dates with confidence. Refund outcomes depend on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date. Because RVezy (not individual hosts) manages cancellations, the process is consistent across every Lyle listing. Full details are in your booking confirmation and the RVezy Help Center. Tip: if your plans feel uncertain, book early to secure the best rig selection, you'll still have flexibility within the grace window.

Can I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Lyle?

Yes, plenty of pet-friendly RV rental options in Lyle are just a filter-click away on RVezy. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see rigs whose owners welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) with clear pet policies and any cleaning fee shown upfront. Lyle is great for dog owners: leashed pups are welcome on the Klickitat Trail (a rail-trail that starts in town), at Columbia Hills Historical State Park, and along the Catherine Creek area just west of town. Pack a long lead, plenty of water for hot summer days, and tick prevention since the oak savannas around Lyle have an active tick season in spring.

Can the RV be delivered to my campsite near Lyle?

Yes, RV delivery in Lyle is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you're flying into Portland International (PDX) about 90 minutes west. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy and you'll see hosts who will tow or drive the rig directly to Columbia Hills Historical State Park, Maryhill State Park, Peach Beach, or a private property in Lyle, White Salmon, or The Dalles. They handle leveling, hookups, and a full walkthrough so you can arrive, settle in, and start exploring. Delivery fees are typically based on mileage from the host's location, and many hosts offer free delivery within a short radius.

How far can I drive on my Lyle RV trip, and do any rentals include unlimited mileage?

You have real range from Lyle, and RV rental with unlimited mileage is available from select hosts (look for it on the listing). Most hosts include around 100 to 150 free miles per night with a small per-mile fee beyond that. For a classic Pacific Northwest RV road trip from Lyle, loop the Historic Columbia River Highway and WA-14 through the gorge. Where are the best campgrounds near Lyle, WA?

You're spoiled for choice with campgrounds near Lyle, most within a 30-minute drive. Columbia Hills Historical State Park sits right on the Columbia with hookup sites, petroglyph tours, and Horsethief Lake for swimming. Maryhill State Park, about 30 minutes east, offers full-hookup sites along the river. Peach Beach RV Park next door has riverfront pads popular with windsurfing fans. Memaloose State Park sits across the river in Oregon with a quiet campground tucked into cottonwoods. For full hookups and big-rig friendliness, Bridge RV Park & Campground in nearby White Salmon/Bingen is a solid option. Reserve Washington State Parks through the official reservation system, summer weekends fill quickly.

When is the best time to visit Lyle for an RV trip?

Late April through mid-October is prime time for RV camping in Lyle and the eastern Columbia River Gorge. Summers are warm and dry, with July and August highs typically in the low 80s and very little rain, ideal for windsurfing at Doug's Beach and hiking Catherine Creek. Spring (April to early June) brings wildflower displays across the oak savannas and milder temps in the 60s and 70s. September and early October deliver cooler nights, golden light, and fewer crowds at the wineries. Winter is wet and windy with highs in the 40s, so many campgrounds run a limited season. Tip: target the first two weeks of May for peak balsamroot and lupine blooms.

I'm first time renting an RV. Will I really be okay?

You'll be more than okay, first time renting an RV is exactly who RVezy hosts are used to welcoming, and Lyle is a forgiving place to learn. Every host gives a hands-on orientation at pickup: how to level the rig, hook up water and power, run propane, dump tanks, and operate slide-outs. You can also message your host before booking with any question, no matter how basic. WA-14 along the Columbia is wide, scenic, and lightly trafficked compared to I-84 across the river, which makes it a beginner-friendly route. Stick to established campgrounds your first night, take the orientation slowly, and remember 24/7 roadside support is included with your booking.

What happens if I break down during my Columbia River Gorge RV trip?

You're never stranded: 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every RVezy booking, so help is one call away whether you're parked at Horsethief Lake or rolling east on US-97 toward Maryhill. Roadside covers common issues like flat tires, jump starts, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest qualified shop. For mechanical questions, your host is also reachable through the RVezy app, since they know their RV best. Cell service is solid along WA-14 and I-84 through the gorge but can get spotty in side canyons north of Lyle (such as the Klickitat River canyon), so download offline maps before heading into the backcountry.

Can I take my Lyle rental on a road trip into Oregon or across to Canada?

Yes, Oregon is just a few minutes away across the Hood River Bridge or The Dalles Bridge, and crossing state lines is fine on an RVezy rental. Many guests pair Lyle with stops at Multnomah Falls, Mount Hood, and Bend for a full loop. Crossing into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and insurance terms, so message the host through the listing before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage stops at the border. A favorite RV road trip from Lyle: WA-14 east to Maryhill, south across the Sam Hill Memorial Bridge, then west on I-84 back through Hood River.

How much should I budget for fuel on my Lyle RV trip?

Fuel is one of the more predictable parts of your budget. Class B campervans typically average 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes get about 8 to 12 mpg, and Class A rigs land around 6 to 10 mpg, while travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Washington gas prices typically run higher than the national average, and the nearest stations to Lyle are in Bingen, White Salmon, and The Dalles, Oregon, where prices are often noticeably cheaper thanks to lower Oregon fuel taxes. Note: as of 2024, most Oregon stations allow self-service, though some still offer attendant service. Budget roughly $0.40 to $0.60 per mile for fuel on a Class C and you'll come in close.

How far ahead should I book a campground near Lyle?

Book your campground as soon as your RV is confirmed, ideally three to six months ahead for summer weekends. Washington State Parks (including Columbia Hills, Maryhill, and Brooks Memorial) open reservations nine months in advance through the official Washington State Parks reservation portal, and prime Columbia River Gorge sites can sell out within minutes of going live. Oregon State Parks across the river (such as Memaloose and Viento) use the Oregon State Parks reservation system with a six-month window. Private parks like Peach Beach take direct bookings and often have midweek availability even in July. Tip: set a calendar alert for the nine-month-out date if you're targeting July 4 weekend at Columbia Hills.

What are the local driving conditions like around Lyle?

Driving around Lyle is genuinely enjoyable, WA-14 hugs the Columbia River with sweeping views and lighter traffic than I-84 across the water. The one factor to respect is wind: the Columbia River Gorge funnels strong westerly winds, especially on summer afternoons, and crosswinds can buffet tall RVs near Doug's Beach State Park and along the open stretches east of Lyle. Plan longer drives for morning hours when winds are calmer. Watch for a few short tunnels on WA-14 (all clear well above standard RV heights), occasional rockfall warnings, and the steep, twisty WA-142 if you head north up the Klickitat River canyon. Winter can bring ice, so check WSDOT conditions before heading out from December through February.

What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Lyle?

Campgrounds near Lyle range from full-hookup parks to rustic state park sites, so you can match your style. Columbia Hills Historical State Park offers water and electric sites, flush restrooms, hot showers, and a dump station. Maryhill State Park has full hookups including sewer. Peach Beach provides 30/50-amp full hookups along the river. For freshwater fills and dump stations between trips, Columbia Hills and Maryhill both have dump stations (small fee for non-campers). Cell coverage is reliable in most campgrounds along the river. Pack a water pressure regulator since gorge campground water pressure can run high, and bring a 25-foot drinking water hose to reach offset hookups.

What's actually inside a typical Lyle RV rental?

You'll be impressed by how well-equipped most rigs are. A typical motorhome rental in Lyle comes with a real bed (queen or king), a kitchen with fridge, freezer, propane stove, microwave, and sink, a wet or dry bathroom with toilet and shower, a dining area that converts to extra sleeping space, climate control with furnace and AC, and seatbelts for every traveling passenger. Most rigs include a TV, many have Bluetooth stereos, and a growing number offer onboard Wi-Fi or cell boosters (handy in the Klickitat canyon). Campervans are more compact but still include sleeping, cooking, and often a portable toilet. Each RVezy listing shows photos and a full amenity list, so you know exactly what's onboard before you book.

What add-ons and pickup options should I know about?

RVezy hosts in the Lyle area offer add-ons that make your trip easier. Common extras include bedding and linen packs, camping kits with chairs and a table, kitchen kits, generators for boondocking, bike racks, paddleboards, and propane refills. Pickup is typically at the host's location in Lyle, Bingen, White Salmon, or Hood River, with delivery to your campground available for a mileage-based fee. Mileage policies vary by listing: some include unlimited miles, while many include 100 to 150 free miles per night with a per-mile charge beyond that. Tip: ask your host if they offer a Starlink kit or onboard Wi-Fi, several gorge hosts now provide it for remote-work-friendly stays.

How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card when you book, and your payment is processed through RVezy's secure system. The security deposit is separate from your booking payment and is typically held on your card shortly before pickup. The amount varies depending on the rig and the protection plan you select. As long as you return the RV in the agreed condition with the correct fuel and propane levels, the deposit is released after your trip ends. An easy way to avoid issues: take time-stamped photos of the RV inside and out at pickup and dropoff, and follow the host's mileage and dump policies.

Is Lyle a good base for a family RV trip?

Lyle is a fantastic launch pad for a family RV trip parents and kids will remember. Children love the petroglyph tours at Columbia Hills Historical State Park (ranger-led, seasonal), swimming at Horsethief Lake, the beach at Maryhill State Park, and the easy Catherine Creek Loop with wildflowers and big views. The Maryhill Museum of Art is a fun pick on a windy day, and the Klickitat Trail is stroller- and bike-friendly. Pack layers because gorge winds can drop temperatures fast, sun protection for the open hikes, and water shoes for the river. With family-sized Class C and bunkhouse travel trailer options on RVezy, everyone gets their own sleeping spot.
