Late June through August is the peak window, with warm lake temperatures ideal for swimming, paddling, and beach days. Early September offers quieter campsites, cooler nights, and the start of foliage season, while late September into early October delivers peak fall colors in the Green Mountains. Mid-May and early June are good shoulder options for RV travelers who want open campgrounds with fewer crowds, though black flies can be active.

Branbury's sandy beach on Lake Dunmore is the park's signature draw and sits directly across Route 53 from the campground. Swimmers, paddlers, and families use the day-use area, with picnic tables and a bathhouse nearby. RV parking is available in the day-use lot.
The Falls of Lana is a multi-tiered cascade on Sucker Brook reached by a short but steep climb from a trailhead just south of the park. The Silver Lake Trail follows an old carriage road from the Falls of Lana parking area past the Falls of Lana and Silver Lake to the Goshen parking area, and the trail goes uphill all the way. Trailhead parking accommodates standard vehicles; larger RVs should park in the Branbury day-use lot and walk over. fs.usda.gov/recarea/gmfl/recarea/?recid=64909
Silver Lake is a quiet backcountry lake in the Green Mountain National Forest reached by continuing past the Falls of Lana. The round trip is roughly 4 miles with sustained climbing. The trail is fairly steep from Route 53 to Silver Lake, so plan for a half-day outing.
Mount Moosalamoo rises behind the park and offers longer ridge hikes through the Moosalamoo National Recreation Area. Routes from the Branbury area connect to a network of trails managed by the Green Mountain National Forest. Expect a full-day effort with rewarding views of Lake Dunmore.
Lake Dunmore is a clear, spring-fed lake well suited to kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards. Rentals are sometimes available locally, and the park's beach area is a convenient launch point. Motorboats are permitted, so paddle close to shore on busy summer weekends.
Lake Dunmore supports populations of bass, lake trout, rainbow trout, and landlocked salmon. Anglers can fish from shore at the park or launch small boats from the nearby public boat access. A Vermont fishing license is required.
Rattlesnake Cliffs is a dramatic overlook high above Lake Dunmore reached via trails shared with the Falls of Lana approach. The climb is steep and rocky but rewards hikers with panoramic views of the lake and valley. The area is sometimes closed seasonally to protect nesting peregrine falcons.

Branbury State Park, VT, United States
The park is on Lake Dunmore Road (Route 53) in Salisbury, roughly 10 miles south of Middlebury and about 45 miles (an hour) south of Burlington. From Rutland it is about 35 miles (45 minutes) north via US-7 and VT-53. RV drivers should note that VT-53 is a narrow, winding two-lane road with lakeside curves and limited shoulders, so take it slow with larger rigs. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Burlington International Airport (BTV).
