October through April is the most comfortable window for RV travel, with mild temperatures, lower humidity, and fewer bugs. Spring shoulder months (March and April) bring warm days and are popular with snowbirds heading north. Summer is peak season when Buccaneer Bay Water Park operates, but expect heat, humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms. Late summer and early fall coincide with Atlantic hurricane season, so RV travelers should monitor Gulf Coast forecasts closely.

Buccaneer Bay is the park's seasonal water park, featuring a wave pool, water slides, and a lazy river. It typically operates from late spring through summer and is a major draw for families staying at the campground. Day-use parking is available adjacent to the entrance.
Pirate's Alley is a short interpretive nature trail winding through coastal marsh and oak hammock within the park. The flat, easy path is suitable for all ages and offers chances to spot wading birds and Gulf Coast flora. Trailhead parking can accommodate tow vehicles.
The park sits directly across South Beach Boulevard from a long stretch of Mississippi Sound beach. Visitors can walk over for sunbathing, beachcombing, and sunset views without moving their RV. Swimming is available, though Gulf conditions vary.
Buccaneer State Park hosts an 18-hole disc golf course set among coastal pines and live oaks. The terrain is flat and beginner friendly, making it an easy activity for campers of all skill levels. Parking is available near the campground.
The Old Town district of nearby Bay St. Louis offers galleries, seafood restaurants, and Gulf Coast architecture about 10 minutes from the park. Street parking can be tight for large rigs, so most RVers visit by tow vehicle. The waterfront harbor and Second Saturday art walk are popular draws.
INFINITY is NASA's official visitor center for Stennis Space Center, located about 20 minutes from the park off I-10. Exhibits cover space exploration, rocket testing, and Earth science, with a large parking lot that accommodates RVs. It is an excellent rainy-day backup.
The Mississippi Sound and nearby Jourdan River provide ample opportunities for saltwater fishing and crabbing. Anglers can fish from public piers in Waveland and Bay St. Louis or launch small boats at nearby ramps. A Mississippi saltwater license is required for most species.

Buccaneer State Park, MS, United States
Buccaneer State Park is about a 1-hour drive east of New Orleans, Louisiana (roughly 60 miles via I-10) and about 90 minutes west of Mobile, Alabama. From I-10, exit at Waveland/Bay St. Louis and follow South Beach Boulevard along the coast to the park entrance. The route is flat with no mountain passes, but RV drivers should watch for low-clearance railroad underpasses in coastal towns and be aware of hurricane evacuation routes. The closest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Louis Armstrong New Orleans International (MSY), with Gulfport-Biloxi International (GPT) offering a closer regional option.
