Calling Lake Provincial Park, AB, Canada
Calling Lake Provincial Park is located 55 kilometers north of Athabasca on Highway 813, approximately a 30-minute drive from town. From Edmonton, the park is 186 kilometers north, about a 3-hour drive via Highway 16 North to Athabasca, then Highway 813. Edmonton International Airport is the nearest commercial airport for fly-and-rent RV options. Important note for RV travelers: the park does not provide water hookups for filling RV tanks, though drinking water is available for filling containers only.
The best time to visit Calling Lake Provincial Park is from June through August, when temperatures range from 19-22°C (66-72°F) and the park is fully operational. May and early September offer pleasant spring and fall conditions with fewer crowds, though weather is cooler and facilities may have limited hours. The park is closed from late September through mid-May for the winter season. Summer visitors should prepare for higher precipitation and thunderstorms common in July and August.

Calling Lake offers excellent fishing for burbot, lake whitefish, walleye, northern pike, and brown trout. Two boat launches and a fish cleaning station accommodate both boat and shore fishing.
The lake is ideal for boating, canoeing, and kayaking. Two boat launches provide convenient water access, and electric motorboats are permitted.
The Calling Lake Boardwalk is a 2-kilometer easy loop trail with elevated wooden walkways. The trail winds through boreal forest, offering prime opportunities for wildlife observation and nature photography.
The marshy shoreline habitat supports American white pelicans, great blue herons, and various waterfowl species. The Boreal Forest ecosystem makes the park a year-round destination for wildlife photographers and birdwatchers.
Calling Lake features sandy beaches suitable for swimming during summer months. Water temperatures are comfortable for swimming from mid-June through August.
