Best time to visit Cathedral Caverns State Park

Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV travel to Cathedral Caverns, with mild temperatures, lower humidity, and colorful forest scenery above the cave. Summer is the busiest period because families take advantage of school breaks, and the constant cool cave temperature makes tours a welcome escape from Alabama heat and humidity. Winter visits are possible since the cave stays around the mid-50s Fahrenheit year round, though outdoor camping can be chilly and occasional cold snaps bring freezing nights. Shoulder months like March, April, October, and November balance pleasant weather with thinner crowds.

Jeremy was a pleasure to work with. He had some issues with the camper from a previous renter, but communicated these with me in detail. He was very helpful throughout the rental and answered questions. He was an honest and reputable owner. I would rent from him again in a second!! Thank you Jeremy!

Working with Ryan was a pleasure. He was friendly, accommodating, & helped me lug my heavy cooler into the camper. He was available for questions and for the most part, answered quickly- there was only one time there was a delay, but he was busy with work. If I’m in the area again, I will definitely use his service. The camper is well maintained.

How to get to Cathedral Caverns State Park

The park sits off County Road 5 near Woodville, roughly 35 to 40 minutes (about 30 miles) east of Huntsville, Alabama, and around 2 hours from both Birmingham and Chattanooga, Tennessee. Most RVers arrive via US-72 and then turn south onto local county roads; these final miles include some narrow, hilly two-lane sections, so drivers of longer rigs should take curves slowly and watch for low-hanging branches. There are no major tunnels or mountain passes on the route, but steep short grades and tight turns near the park entrance require caution. The closest commercial airport for fly-and-rent trips is Huntsville International Airport (HSV).
