Spring (March through May) and fall (late September through November) are the most comfortable months, with mild temperatures, lower humidity, and active wildflowers or fall color in the longleaf pine and hardwood understory. Summer is warm and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms, but Lake Juniper offers paddling and shaded picnicking. Winter is mild but can bring chilly nights and occasional freezes, and shoulder-season weekends typically offer the best campsite availability for RV travelers.

Lake Juniper is a 360-acre cypress-rimmed lake at the heart of the park, ideal for kayaks, canoes, and small jon boats. Rentals are available seasonally near the swim area, and a public boat ramp accommodates trailered boats. Gasoline motors are restricted to low horsepower.
Turkey Oak Trail is a moderate loop of about 2 miles winding through longleaf pine forest with interpretive signs about the red-cockaded woodpecker. Trailhead parking is large enough for tow vehicles after dropping a trailer at camp.
The park's 18-hole championship course is one of the few public golf courses operated within a U.S. state park system. The clubhouse has its own ample paved parking suitable for tow vehicles. Tee times can be reserved in advance through the South Carolina State Parks website.
Lake Juniper offers bank and boat fishing for largemouth bass, crappie, bream, and catfish. A fishing pier and shoreline access points are reachable from the campground without moving the RV. A valid South Carolina freshwater fishing license is required.
A network of multi-use trails radiating from the Boundary House area provides roughly 10 miles of hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian routes through pine flatwoods. RV travelers with horse trailers can use the dedicated equestrian camping area. Trails are mostly flat with sandy soils.
A designated swim area on Lake Juniper offers a sandy beach, seasonal lifeguard service on select dates, and a nearby picnic shelter. Day-use parking accommodates trucks and small RVs. Swim area access is included with park admission.
The town of Cheraw, just north of the park, preserves a walkable historic district with antebellum homes, the Old St. David's Church, and the birthplace of jazz musician Dizzy Gillespie. Street parking near the visitor center accommodates tow vehicles, but oversized RVs should park on the town outskirts and walk in.
Very helpful throughout the entire process, booking to returns. Enjoyed the camper and the kind service. Would definitely rent again.

Cheraw State Park, SC, United States
The park sits about 4 miles southwest of Cheraw, South Carolina, on US 1 and SC 52, roughly 1.5 hours (about 80 miles) east of Charlotte, North Carolina, and about 2 hours (around 100 miles) northeast of Columbia, South Carolina. Roads into the park are paved and generally suitable for larger RVs, with no tunnels or steep mountain grades, though some interior campground loops are narrow and tree-lined, so trim wide mirrors and watch overhead branches. The closest major airports for fly-and-rent travelers are Charlotte Douglas International (CLT) and Florence Regional (FLO), each within a two-hour drive.
