Late May through early October is the prime RV season, when the reservoir is open to boating and the campground runs at full capacity. June and September offer warm days, cooler nights, and thinner weekend crowds than peak July and August. Spring can be windy with fast-moving thunderstorms, while fall brings crisp mornings and fewer mosquitoes. Winter camping is possible at reduced capacity, but expect freezing overnight lows and possible snow.
Campground open at reduced capacity; expect snow and icy roads.
Cold nights; reservoir often partially frozen.
Windy; late-season snowstorms possible.
Shoulder season; campground fills on warm weekends.
Afternoon thunderstorms common.
Peak boating begins; reserve early.
Hot, busy peak season with daily thunderstorms.
Watch for blue-green algae advisories on the reservoir.
Excellent shoulder-season RV weather.
Cool nights; fall color along Cherry Creek.
Reduced services; winterization underway at some loops.
Campground open at limited capacity; cold and possible snow.
The 880-acre Cherry Creek Reservoir is the centerpiece of the park and supports motorboating, sailing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding. Two boat ramps serve trailered craft, and a marina offers rentals and fuel. All motorized boats must pass an aquatic nuisance species inspection before launch.
The designated swim beach on the reservoir's northwest shore is a popular summer destination with sand, shade shelters, and a separate parking area. Lifeguards are not on duty, so swimming is at your own risk. RV-friendly paved parking is available near the entrance.
A paved multi-use trail runs along Cherry Creek and connects the park to downtown Denver roughly 15 miles to the northwest. The route is flat to gently rolling and popular with cyclists, runners, and inline skaters. Cyclists can start directly from the campground loop.
The reservoir is stocked and managed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife for walleye, rainbow trout, wiper, largemouth bass, and panfish. Shore fishing is accessible from multiple points, and a fishing pier is located near the marina. A valid Colorado fishing license is required.
A concessionaire-run stable inside the park offers guided trail rides across the prairie and along shared-use trails. Rides range from one hour to half-day options and are suitable for beginners. Trailer parking is available at the stable area.
The park's 107-acre off-leash area is one of the largest in the Denver region and includes mown paths, shaded cottonwood groves, and water access on Cherry Creek. It is a favorite stop for RV travelers with dogs. A dedicated parking lot accommodates trucks with trailers.
The park protects extensive wetlands, prairie, and riparian habitat along Cherry Creek that support deer, coyotes, foxes, and over 300 bird species. Boardwalks and short interpretive loops make it easy to spot waterfowl and raptors. The nature center near the campground offers seasonal programs.
Dirt and crushed-gravel trails loop through the park's prairie and along the reservoir, with mild grades suitable for beginner to intermediate riders. Trails are shared with hikers and equestrians, so yield rules apply. Trailhead parking near the campground fits most RVs.
My experience with Justin was 5 star from the start. The commutation was great, the camper was clean and stocked. Everything worked and was explained. We really enjoyed our camping trip with this camper. Thank you Justin.

We had a wonderful time. Elissa was very informative, responsive to any questions and very helpful with suggestions. We were first time van renters and we now have a desire to continue.

Just book it already! It’s the van you want! The van itself has everything you need! Spacious! Easy to drive and an amazing turning radius! And not bad in gas. The Host is even better! Super sweet, helpful and knowledgeable about Colorado! I had the most random questions and she’d answer them and get back to me promptly. I can’t wait to go back and explore more with EJ’s vans!

Cherry Creek State Park, CO, United States
The park sits inside the Denver metro, roughly 15 miles southeast of downtown Denver and about 10 miles south of Aurora via I-225 to Parker Road (CO-83). Colorado Springs is about 70 miles south via I-25, a 75 to 90 minute drive, and Fort Collins is about 80 miles north. There are no tunnels or steep mountain grades on the approach, but afternoon traffic on I-25, I-225, and E-470 can be heavy for larger rigs. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Denver International Airport (DEN), about 20 miles north of the park.
