Late June through August is the prime window, when the campground is fully open, the swimming beach is staffed, and warm weather supports boating and fishing on the St. Lawrence. Early September is an excellent shoulder season with cooler nights, fewer crowds, and strong fall fishing. May and early June can be cool and buggy but offer easier reservations. The park is closed for camping in winter, so RV travel is limited to the warm-weather season.

The park's campground offers waterfront and wooded sites along the St. Lawrence River reservoir. Many sites include electric hookups and are within walking distance of the beach and boat launch.
Coles Creek features a sandy guarded swimming beach on a sheltered bay of the St. Lawrence. The shallow, calm water makes it a family-friendly stop on warm summer days.
A hard-surface boat launch and seasonal marina provide direct access to the upper St. Lawrence River for motorboats, sailboats, and personal watercraft. Trailer parking is available near the ramp.
The park is a well-known fishery for smallmouth and largemouth bass, northern pike, walleye, and panfish. Anglers fish from boats, the shoreline, and the park's docks with a valid New York State fishing license.
Sheltered bays and the mouth of Coles Creek itself offer protected water for kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards. Launching is easy from the beach area or designated small-craft access points.
Short trails wind through the park's woodlands and shoreline, offering easy walking and good birdwatching opportunities. Trails are mostly flat and suitable for casual hikers.
Robert Moses State Park and the Eisenhower Lock Visitor Center near Massena are about 30 to 40 minutes east of Coles Creek. Visitors can watch ocean-going freighters transit the St. Lawrence Seaway from a free public viewing area.
It was a great experience- they were flexible on timing of pick up and drop off, and had the option to leave out car in their driveway. They were easy to communicate with and very responsive. Really nice people and would definitely rent from them again.

Coles Creek State Park, NY, United States
The park sits off NY Route 37 near Waddington, roughly a 40-minute drive from Massena and about 1 hour 15 minutes from Watertown via I-81 and Route 37. Ottawa, Ontario is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes north across the international border, and Syracuse is about 2 hours 30 minutes south. RV drivers should note that crossing into Canada via the Seaway International Bridge at Cornwall requires passports and propane and weight compliance, and some county roads in the area are narrow with seasonal frost-heave damage. The nearest commercial airports for fly-and-rent trips are Syracuse Hancock International (SYR) and Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International (YOW).
