The short northern summer from mid-June through August offers the most practical window for any Yukon travel connected to this region, with long daylight hours, open roads further south, and ice-free lakes. July is typically the warmest month and best for wildlife viewing and photography from the nearest accessible communities. Shoulder months of late May and early September bring cooler temperatures, fewer bugs, and the chance of early snow. Winter travel is for experienced Arctic visitors only, as highways serving the broader region can close on short notice.

The surrounding Old Crow Flats area is one of North America's most important wetland ecosystems for migratory birds and caribou. Visitors flying in may see waterfowl, moose, and seasonal caribou movements across the tundra and lakes.
Old Crow is the fly-in base community for the region and the home of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation. Visitors can learn about the deep connection between the people and the land, including the Vuntut Gwitchin who have lived in the Old Crow Flats and Porcupine River areas in the northern Yukon for countless generations.
The Dempster Highway is the closest drivable experience to this remote corner of the Yukon for RV travellers. The gravel route crosses the Arctic Circle and passes through Tombstone Territorial Park, offering sweeping tundra views, wildlife, and dramatic mountain scenery.
Experienced paddlers access the greater region via rivers such as the Porcupine, typically launched with the help of local outfitters. Trips are multi-day wilderness expeditions with no services along the way.
The park's high-latitude location offers near 24-hour daylight in June and strong aurora potential in late August and September. RV travellers typically view these phenomena from pullouts along the Dempster Highway or from Dawson City.
The region's shallow lakes, peatlands, and open tundra offer rare photographic subjects in an ecosystem shaped by permafrost and migration. Guided fly-in trips from Old Crow provide the most practical access.
Dawson City serves as the primary RV staging point for any trip toward the far northern Yukon. The Klondike-era town has RV campgrounds, dump stations, fuel, groceries, and mechanical services before the long Dempster Highway drive north.

Daadzaii Van Territorial Park, Canada
There is no road access to Daadzaii Van Territorial Park. The nearest community is Old Crow, a fly-in Vuntut Gwitchin village with no road connection, typically reached by scheduled flights from Whitehorse or Dawson City. RV travellers generally base out of Dawson City, roughly a 6 to 7 hour drive north of Whitehorse on the Klondike Highway, then continue on the Dempster Highway, a long unpaved route with steep grades, river crossings, limited fuel, and sharp gravel that demands extra tires, slower speeds, and careful weight management. Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport is the main fly-and-rent hub for Yukon RV trips.
