Late June through August is the most reliable window, with warm days, swimmable water temperatures, and the campground fully open. Early September is a strong shoulder season for RV travelers: cooler nights, thinning mosquitoes, and lower campsite demand, though some services wind down after Labor Day. May and early June can be cool and buggy but green and quiet. The park is closed in winter, so off-season RV visits are not possible.

Lake of the Isles is a sheltered, island-dotted waterway between Wellesley Island and Hill Island that is ideal for small-boat fishing and paddling. The park has a boat launch convenient to the campground for trailered boats and kayaks. Anglers target northern pike, smallmouth bass, and panfish.
Calm water and protected bays make DeWolf Point a good launch for paddlers exploring the Thousand Islands shoreline. Paddlers can work around nearby islands and into quiet coves without crossing major shipping lanes.
Wellesley Island State Park is a short drive from DeWolf Point and offers a large nature center, the Minna Anthony Common Nature Center trails, a beach, and a golf course. It is the most common day-use complement to a DeWolf Point camping stay. parks.ny.gov/parks/wellesleyisland
Alexandria Bay, roughly 15 to 20 minutes from the park by vehicle, is the launch point for narrated Thousand Islands boat cruises, including tours past Boldt Castle on Heart Island. Large paved lots accommodate tow vehicles and smaller RVs.
Boldt Castle on Heart Island is the signature historic attraction of the Thousand Islands, reached by shuttle or tour boat from Alexandria Bay. Touring the castle and yacht house is a half-day outing from DeWolf Point. boldtcastle.com
The park's shoreline on Lake of the Isles offers shallow, calm water suitable for wading and cooling off on summer afternoons. Picnic tables and shaded lawn areas sit close to the water near the day-use section.
Wellesley Island sits on the St. Lawrence flyway and supports ospreys, herons, bald eagles, and a variety of waterfowl. Early morning paddles and shoreline walks around the campground are productive for sightings.

Dewolf Point State Park, NY, United States
From Watertown, New York, it is roughly a 30 to 40 minute drive north via Interstate 81 to the Thousand Islands Bridge, then onto Wellesley Island. Syracuse is about 2 hours south via I-81, and Ottawa, Ontario is roughly 1.5 to 2 hours north across the border. RV drivers should plan for the Thousand Islands Bridge toll and for steep approach grades on and off the bridge; follow posted height and weight limits and use low gears on descents. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR).
