Best time to visit Donner Memorial

June through August is prime RV camping season, when all campgrounds are open and temperatures range from the mid-70s to low 80s Fahrenheit with minimal precipitation. Shoulder season camping is possible in May (after Memorial Day) and September, though Creek and Splitrock campgrounds close September 1, leaving only Ridge open through early October. Winter cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are available November through March, but RV camping is not available due to extreme snow and freezing conditions. Plan ahead for I-80 winter closures and chain control requirements, which occur frequently from November through April.
