Late June through early September offers the warmest weather and reliable park access, with comfortable river temperatures for swimming and long daylight hours for driving Marine Drive. July and August are peak months on the Eastern Shore, so expect busier picnic areas on summer weekends. Shoulder months of June and September are quieter and offer cooler, pleasant conditions for RV travel. The park is a day-use site only and facilities are generally closed outside the summer season.

The day-use picnic area along the East River is the park's main draw. Shaded tables and a grassy setting make it a convenient lunch stop for RV travellers on Marine Drive.
The East River offers calm spots for wading and summer swimming. Water levels and conditions vary, so check before entering and supervise children closely.
The park is a natural stop along Nova Scotia's Marine Drive (Highway 7). The route links small fishing communities, lighthouses, and coves between Halifax and Canso.
Sheet Harbour, a short drive east of the park, offers fuel, groceries, and local services. Visitors can see the MacPhee House Community Museum and walking trails near the harbour.
Taylor Head Provincial Park, east of Sheet Harbour, features sandy beaches and coastal hiking along a rugged headland. Several loop trails of varying difficulty begin at the main parking area.
The riverside forest attracts songbirds, waterfowl, and small mammals. Early morning visits are best for spotting activity along the water's edge.
The forested riverbanks and flowing water make for classic Eastern Shore photo stops. Autumn colour in September adds to the appeal for scenic photographers.
Matthew was so super easy to deal with. He answered all of my questions promptly and made the whole process easy and worry free! We had an amazing stay in this beautiful trailer. It had all the amenities we could possibly need and it was very clean and modern! We would definitely stay in this trailer again!

We had an absolutely wonderful stay in Angela and Dan’s trailer in Nova Scotia. From the moment we booked, communication was friendly, quick, and helpful, making everything smooth and stress-free. The trailer was well-equipped, and clearly cared for with love — you can feel the warmth of the memories they’ve made here. It was the perfect base for exploring the beautiful Cape Breton, and we felt right at home. Angela and Dan were thoughtful, respectful hosts who genuinely cared that we had a great experience. Highly recommended!

East River Provincial Park, NS, Canada
The park sits along Highway 7 on Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore, roughly a two hour drive (about 120 km) east of Halifax and about 40 minutes west of Sherbrooke. Highway 7 is a winding two-lane coastal route with some narrow shoulders and small bridges, so RV drivers should travel at moderate speeds and watch for moose, especially at dawn and dusk. There are no major tunnels or mountain passes on the approach, but fuel stops are spaced out, so top up in Halifax, Musquodoboit Harbour, or Sheet Harbour. The nearest airport for fly-and-rent trips is Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ).
