Gooseberry Lake Provincial Park, AB, Canada
Gooseberry Lake is located 12 km north of Consort, Alberta, via Highway 41 and a 2 km access road suitable for most RVs up to 50 feet. The nearest major cities are Consort (12 km away), Edmonton (approximately 300 km or 3 hours southeast), and Calgary (approximately 355 km or 3.5 to 4 hours southwest). Edmonton International Airport is the nearest airport, about 300 km away, making fly-and-rent RV travel accessible. Note that park access is closed from mid-October through mid-May.
The park opens May 14 and closes September 8 for campground access. Peak season is June through August, with average highs around 22-24°C (72-75°F) and excellent conditions for all activities. July and August offer the warmest weather and best bird migrations, though June is the wettest month. May and September are ideal shoulder seasons with fewer crowds, temperatures around 16-18°C (61-64°F), and pleasant conditions for RV travel and outdoor exploration.

Gooseberry Lake is an Important Bird Area and prime destination for observing waterfowl, shorebirds, and migratory species. The park is home to the endangered piping plover and offers opportunities to spot sanderlings, red-necked phalaropes, great blue herons, and seasonal ducks and geese.
