Late June through August is the prime window, with warm days in the 75 to 82 F range, warm river water for swimming, and the full campground and marina in operation. Early July is the busiest stretch around the holiday weekend, so reservations fill quickly. Late May, June, and September offer cooler nights, fewer crowds, and better rates, though some services scale back after Labor Day. Visitors should expect biting insects in early summer and cool evenings any month, so pack layers.

The park has a small sandy swim beach on a sheltered bay of the St. Lawrence River. It is a short walk from the campground loops and offers gentle, shallow entry ideal for families.
Grass Point has a boat launch and seasonal marina with docks, giving direct access to the Thousand Islands boating area. RVers can tow a small boat and launch on site, then explore coves and islands offshore.
The park is a popular fishing spot for smallmouth bass, northern pike, walleye, and muskellunge. Anglers can fish from shore, the docks, or from a private boat with a valid New York State fishing license.
Alexandria Bay is about 8 miles east and is the main hub for Thousand Islands boat tours, including trips to Boldt Castle on Heart Island. Large RV parking is limited downtown, so most visitors park and tour on foot.
Wellesley Island, reached via the Thousand Islands Bridge, hosts the Minna Anthony Common Nature Center with trails, exhibits, and river overlooks. Trailhead parking accommodates tow vehicles and smaller RVs.
The Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, about 15 miles west, showcases the region's maritime heritage with restored wooden boats and on-water programs. There is lot parking suitable for vehicles with trailers.
The park's flat, low-traffic roads and waterfront paths are good for casual family cycling. Riders can pedal between the campground, beach, and marina without leaving the park.

Grass Point State Park, NY, United States
The park is reached via Interstate 81, exiting at Route 12 near Fishers Landing, roughly 25 miles north of Watertown and about 90 miles north of Syracuse, a drive of about 1 hour 30 minutes. From Ottawa it is about 90 miles, and from Kingston, Ontario about 35 miles across the Thousand Islands Bridge, which has standard RV clearance but collects tolls. There are no major mountain passes, though Route 12 is narrow and winding in spots, so larger rigs should drive at reduced speeds. The nearest airport for fly and rent trips is Syracuse Hancock International Airport, with Ottawa and Watertown regional airports as smaller alternatives.
