Spring and fall, roughly April through May and September through October, offer the most comfortable conditions for RV travel, with mild daytime temperatures and cool nights. Summer brings hot, dry weather ideal for swimming and paddling, though afternoon highs regularly exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Winter access remains possible because the park sits at low desert elevation, but nights are cold and some services scale back. Shoulder seasons also coincide with Palisade's peach and wine harvest, a popular draw in the Grand Valley.

The Colorado Riverfront Trail is a paved multi-use pathway linking several park sections and nearby communities along the river. Cyclists, walkers, and runners can access the trail directly from park campgrounds. Trailhead parking accommodates RVs in most sections.
Corn Lake is a stocked reservoir open to year-round fishing for trout, bass, and catfish. A boat ramp, fishing pier, and day-use parking serve anglers. The section is one of the most popular fishing spots in the Grand Valley.
Connected Lakes is a chain of reclaimed gravel-pit ponds ideal for kayaking, canoeing, and stand-up paddleboarding. Only hand-launched and electric-motor craft are allowed, keeping the water calm. Interpretive signs and shoreline trails circle the ponds.
Island Acres sits between towering cliffs east of Palisade and offers swim beaches on its lakes plus a full-service campground. The section is the easternmost unit of the park and provides direct I-70 access. RV sites include electric and full-hookup options.
The Colorado River Wildlife Area section protects riparian habitat where visitors can spot great blue herons, bald eagles, mule deer, and migratory waterfowl. Short walking paths lead from the parking area to river overlooks. Spring and fall are the best viewing seasons.
Colorado National Monument is a dramatic red-rock landscape just minutes from the Fruita section of the park. The 23-mile Rim Rock Drive climbs past sandstone canyons and overlooks and is popular with cyclists and sightseers. RVs over 35 feet should check length advisories before entering. nps.gov/colm/
Palisade is Colorado's fruit and wine capital and lies adjacent to the park's eastern sections. Visitors can tour vineyards, pick peaches in season, and sample local ciders along the Fruit and Wine Byway. Parking at most tasting rooms is limited for large RVs, so arriving by tow vehicle is recommended.

Mitch was accommodating and communication was easy and responsive. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in this camper and will hopefully have the opportunity to rent from him again!

When the phrase “above and beyond” was created , Shiloh was who they had in mind. Not only did Shiloh rent us his RV for a really important family reunion in Aurora (on the other side of the mountain range), he rented us his truck as well because our vehicle wouldn’t haul it. He truly went above and beyond to accommodate our trip, making sure we had everything we needed and checked in on us daily to make sure all was well. You are in good hands booking with him, he is a man of his word and I would be happy to business with him again. Thanks again Shiloh!!

The park's sections line Interstate 70 between Palisade and Fruita in western Colorado, with most units accessible directly from I-70 exits. Grand Junction is the nearest city and lies roughly 10 to 15 minutes from the Corn Lake and Connected Lakes sections, while Denver is about 250 miles east and Salt Lake City about 285 miles west via I-70. RV drivers should be aware that eastbound I-70 through Glenwood Canyon includes tunnels, tight curves, and steep grades, and winter storms can trigger chain laws and closures on mountain passes. Grand Junction Regional Airport (GJT) is the closest airport for fly-and-rent travelers.
