Best time to visit Jonathan's Pond Provincial Park

Late June through August offers the warmest weather and the best swimming and paddling conditions on the pond, with long daylight hours for exploring nearby coastal communities. July and August are peak season, so reservations for serviced sites are strongly recommended. Early September is a quieter shoulder period with cooler nights and fewer bugs, though some services may wind down. The park is not a winter destination, as it closes for the off-season along with most Newfoundland provincial parks.

How to get to Jonathan's Pond Provincial Park

The park is just off Route 330 (the Road to the Beaches) in central Newfoundland, roughly a 20 to 30 minute drive north of Gander and the Trans-Canada Highway (Route 1). From St. John's, plan on about a 4 hour drive west along the TCH before turning north at Gander; from Corner Brook it is roughly 4.5 to 5 hours east. Gander International Airport is the closest airport for fly-and-rent travellers, with RV pickups typically arranged in Gander or St. John's. Roads are paved and generally RV-friendly, but expect narrow shoulders, moose crossings at dawn and dusk, and limited services between towns, so fuel up in Gander before heading north.
