Best time to visit Lake Easton State Park

Late June through early September is the prime window, with warm days, dry trails, and full campground services on the lake. July and August are the busiest months, so reservations are recommended for weekends and holidays. May, early June, and September offer cooler temperatures, smaller crowds, and good fishing, though spring runoff can keep waters cold. Winter visits are possible for snow play and cross-country skiing, but the campground is typically closed and snow lingers on roads and trails.

Things to do at Lake Easton State Park

  • Boating and fishing on Lake Easton Easy
    RV parking available

Lake Easton offers small-boat and kayak access for anglers targeting trout and other freshwater species. A boat launch within the park makes it easy to put in for the day. Speed limits keep the lake calm and family-friendly.

  • Palouse to Cascades State Park Trail Easy
    RV parking available

This long-distance rail trail (formerly the Iron Horse Trail and John Wayne Pioneer Trail) passes near the park and is open to hikers, bikers, and equestrians. The gentle, hard-packed grade follows the old Milwaukee Road railbed through the Cascades. It is a great option for easy out-and-back rides from camp.

  • Yakima River paddling Moderate
    RV parking available

The upper Yakima River flows through the park area and is popular for kayaking and float trips downstream toward Cle Elum. Flows vary with seasonal releases, so check conditions before launching. Spring and early summer typically offer the best water levels.

  • Park hiking and nature trails Easy
    RV parking available

Short forested trails wind through the campground area and along the lakeshore, offering quiet walks beneath Douglas-fir and pine. Wildlife viewing includes deer, waterfowl, and songbirds. Trails are mostly flat and family-friendly.

  • Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing Moderate
    RV parking available

In winter the park and adjacent rail trail double as a snow-play and ski touring area when conditions allow. A nearby Sno-Park provides additional groomed terrain. Bring traction devices and check snow reports before heading out.

  • Day trip to Cle Elum and Roslyn Easy

The historic towns of Cle Elum and Roslyn lie a short drive east on I-90 and offer cafes, breweries, and the filming locations from the show Northern Exposure. They make an easy half-day excursion from the campground. Pull-through parking is available in town for tow vehicles when the RV is left at camp.

  • Snoqualmie Pass recreation Moderate

Snoqualmie Pass, about 20 miles west on I-90, offers Pacific Crest Trail access, alpine lakes, and ski areas in winter. It is an easy day trip from the park for hiking or sightseeing. Watch for steep grades and changing weather on the pass.
