The 85-acre lake supports fishing for largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and channel catfish. A jetty, shoreline access, and a boat ramp make it easy to reach the water from nearby parking areas. A valid Iowa fishing license is required.
A designated sand beach on the lake's south shore is the park's summer centerpiece. There are no lifeguards, and swimming is at your own risk. Nearby parking accommodates tow vehicles while RVs stay at the campground.
The park offers several miles of trails through oak woodlands and along the lakeshore. Routes are generally rolling with a few moderate climbs, and some segments are shared with equestrian users. Trailheads near the campground loops keep access simple for RV campers.
Lake of Three Fires is one of the few Iowa state parks with a dedicated equestrian campground and bridle trails. Horse campers find pull-through parking suited to larger living-quarter trailers. Day visitors can enjoy the trails without horses.
The lake is restricted to electric motors and non-motorized craft, making it calm for kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards. A concrete boat ramp provides easy launching. Bring your own craft or check the park for seasonal rentals.
Open picnic areas and reservable shelters sit near the beach and along the lake. Tables, grills, and restrooms are available during the main season. Several day-use lots can handle tow vehicles when RVs remain at the campground.
The park's mix of woodland, prairie restoration, and lakeshore supports white-tailed deer, wild turkey, songbirds, and waterfowl. Early mornings near the trails and lake inlets offer the best viewing. Binoculars are recommended.

Lake of Three Fires State Park, IA, United States
The park sits roughly 3 miles north of Bedford, Iowa, off county roads connecting to US Highway 2. From Des Moines it is about a 2-hour drive south via I-35 and US-34, and from Omaha about 2 hours east via I-29 and US-2. The final approach uses two-lane rural highways with a few rolling grades and narrow shoulders, so RV drivers should reduce speed on curves and watch for farm equipment. The nearest major airports for fly-and-rent trips are Des Moines International (DSM) and Eppley Airfield in Omaha (OMA).
