Late June through mid-September offers the most reliable dry weather, warm temperatures, and fully open trails and campground loops, making it the prime window for RV travel. Spring (April to early June) brings wildflowers and green hillsides, but expect frequent rain typical of northwestern Oregon. Early fall is a strong shoulder season with cooler nights, thinner crowds, and good color on the deciduous trees. Winter stays open but is wet and often muddy, so RVers should be prepared for rain, short daylight hours, and occasional low-elevation snow or ice on access roads.
Cool, wet, and often foggy; expect muddy trails.
Still wet; occasional low-elevation snow possible.
Transition month, rainy with early wildflowers.
Spring green-up; rain gear essential.
Drier and warmer; pleasant shoulder season.
Start of peak season; longest daylight.
Peak season; reserve RV sites well in advance.
Warm and dry; watch for regional fire restrictions.
Excellent shoulder season with thinner crowds.
Fall color in deciduous stands; rain returns.
Wet and cool; limited daylight for touring.
Coldest, wettest month; occasional freezing rain.
The Banks-Vernonia State Trail is a 21-mile paved rail-trail that runs through the park and is open to hikers, cyclists, and equestrians. RVers can access the trail directly from the main day-use area, which has large parking suitable for towed vehicles. Grades are gentle thanks to the old rail alignment.
Hilltop is the park's main day-use and information hub, with restrooms, picnic areas, and a large paved parking lot that accommodates RVs. It offers a meadow setting with long views across the Coast Range foothills. This is the easiest base for orientation on arrival.
The park maintains a dedicated network of single-track mountain bike trails separate from the multi-use Banks-Vernonia Trail. Routes range from beginner rollers to more technical climbs through forested terrain. Trailhead parking near the main campground fits most RVs and tow vehicles.
An 18-hole disc golf course winds through meadow and forest edges within the park. It is free to play with self-pay parking and is walkable directly from the main campground. The course suits all skill levels.
A dedicated equestrian camp provides large pull-through sites with corrals and access to miles of horse-friendly trails. Even non-riders can hike these quieter loops. The horse camp entrance is separate from the main RV campground.
The park's elevated meadows sit far enough from Portland's light dome to offer solid dark-sky viewing on clear nights. Summer and early fall provide the best chances for cloudless skies. Occasional public star parties are hosted by local astronomy groups.
Several short loop trails from the main campground lead through mixed Douglas fir, alder, and big-leaf maple forest. These walks are well suited for families and travelers who want to stretch their legs without driving. Most loops can be completed in under an hour.

What a great experience!!! They have everything you can want in the rental and are super friendly and accommodating. I've owned several RV's and rented dozens and this was an easy process from the start. We will be looking to rent from them again.

Jason from the start was great to work with. The unit was newer and everything worked. I did have a few questions while on my trip and he always texted back within minutes. Easy pick and drop off. I will rent from him again. Thanks

L.L. Stub Stewart State Park, OR, United States
The park sits just off U.S. Highway 26 near Buxton, about 35 miles (roughly 45 minutes to 1 hour) west of downtown Portland and about 50 miles east of the Oregon coast at Cannon Beach. Highway 26 is a well-maintained four-lane route with moderate grades through the Coast Range, making it generally comfortable for large RVs, though westbound travelers should watch for wind, fog, and slower climbing lanes. The closest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Portland International Airport (PDX), approximately 45 miles east of the park. Expect limited services along the final approach, so fuel and groceries are easiest to handle in Hillsboro or North Plains before turning into the park.
