Best time to visit Locust Lake State Park

Late May through early September is the prime window, when the campground is fully open, the swimming beach is staffed, and warm days suit paddling and fishing. June and early September offer milder temperatures and thinner weekend crowds, which is helpful for larger RVs looking for easier site selection. Fall brings vivid foliage across the surrounding hardwoods, typically peaking in mid-October. Winter is quiet with limited services, so most RV travelers target the late-spring to early-fall season.

How to get to Locust Lake State Park

The park lies off Interstate 81 near Barnesville in Schuylkill County, roughly a 30 minute drive from Hazleton and about 90 minutes from both Allentown and Harrisburg. Philadelphia is approximately two hours south, and New York City sits about two and a half hours to the east. RV drivers should expect rolling terrain and a few steeper grades on the approach roads through the Appalachian ridges, and the final access roads into the campground are narrow and winding, so large rigs should take them slowly. The nearest major airports for fly-and-rent trips are Lehigh Valley International in Allentown and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International.
