The best time to visit Melmerby Beach is from late June through August, when saltwater temperatures on the Northumberland Strait climb into the low 20s Celsius and supervised swimming is offered. Early July and August also deliver long daylight hours, warm air temperatures, and dependable beach weather, though weekends can be busy. Early June and September are quieter shoulder windows with cooler water and no lifeguards, and the park is generally not staffed or serviced outside the summer season.

Saltwater swimming is the headline activity at Melmerby Beach, with some of the warmest ocean water north of the Carolinas. Supervised swimming is offered during the summer season, and the gently sloping sand bottom suits families with children.
The park offers roughly two kilometres of soft sand beach ideal for long shoreline walks. Low tide exposes more firm sand, driftwood, and shells for beachcombers.
A grassy day-use area behind the dunes has picnic tables and shade trees, making it a comfortable base for a full-day visit. RVers can park in the main paved lot and set up lunch within a short walk of the sand.
The dune grasses and nearby salt marsh habitat attract shorebirds, terns, and gulls throughout the summer. Early morning is the best time for quiet wildlife viewing before the beach gets busy.
The open stretch of coast gives clear views over the Northumberland Strait at dusk. On calm, dark nights the open beach also offers broad skies for casual stargazing.
Melmerby Beach pairs well with a drive along the Northumberland Shore to the historic town of Pictou, about 30 minutes away. RVers can combine beach time with waterfront dining, local museums, and other nearby provincial parks such as Caribou/Munroes Island.
Matthew was so super easy to deal with. He answered all of my questions promptly and made the whole process easy and worry free! We had an amazing stay in this beautiful trailer. It had all the amenities we could possibly need and it was very clean and modern! We would definitely stay in this trailer again!
