The best time to visit Mikisew is late June through late August, when temperatures are warmest and daylight is longest. Peak conditions occur in July, with comfortable weather and lower precipitation. Shoulder seasons in May and early September offer fewer crowds and can provide excellent conditions for RV camping, though expect cooler temperatures and variable weather. Note that the park operates seasonally and closes for the winter.

The park features three sandy beaches along Eagle Lake, all with gradual drop-offs and swimming buoys. Eagle Lake offers a scenic paddling loop around small islands, suitable for canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards. Mikisew has five interconnected hiking trails totaling 5.4 km. The Old Dog Trail (1.7 km, easy, 20 minutes) connects to the Beaver Meadow Trail (3.2 km, moderate, 1 hour loop) and Maple Canyon Trail (2.3 km, moderate, 1 hour loop).
