Mount Diablo State Park, CA, United States
Mount Diablo State Park is accessible from major Bay Area cities: approximately 10 miles from Walnut Creek, 30 miles from Oakland, and 38 miles from San Francisco. Access via Highway 680 to Walnut Creek, then Diablo Road east to North or South Gate entrances. Park roads feature steep grades, tight curves, and blind turns, restricting RVs and trailers over 20 feet from driving to the summit. San Francisco International Airport is the nearest commercial airport at 38 miles.
Spring (March-May) offers mild temperatures around 60-75°F and vibrant wildflower displays peaking in late March and April, especially in Mitchell Canyon. Late summer through early fall (June-September) brings warm, clear days ideal for summit views, though crowds peak and temperatures exceed 80°F. Fall and winter (October-April) feature fewer visitors and crisp air for distant views but expect occasional rain from November through March. Early morning visits year-round help avoid midday heat and crowds.
