Things to do at Mount Nebo State Park

  • Rim Trail Moderate
    RV parking available

The Rim Trail is a loop that follows the edge of the mountaintop and passes multiple overlooks of the Arkansas River Valley. It is the park's signature day hike and connects several trailheads that are accessible from campground roads.

  • Sunrise Point and Sunset Point Overlooks
    RV parking available

These two roadside overlooks deliver panoramic views across the Arkansas River Valley toward Lake Dardanelle and Petit Jean Mountain. Both are reachable by paved park roads with pull-in parking that accommodates tow vehicles after dropping the RV at camp.

  • Bench Trail Strenuous

The Bench Trail circles below the rim and links scenic springs, rock bluffs, and historic CCC stonework. It is longer and more strenuous than the Rim Trail but offers the most solitude in the park.

  • Historic CCC Cabins and Structures
    RV parking available

Mount Nebo preserves cabins, pavilions, and stone walls constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Self-guided walks around the plateau pass many original structures, including those documented on the National Register of Historic Places. npgallery.nps.gov/GetAsset/a6a48ac2-8cfb-4adc-a45c-d5b622113bcf

  • Hang Glider Launch Viewing
    RV parking available

Mount Nebo is one of the few established hang gliding launch sites in Arkansas, and the launch ramp doubles as a dramatic overlook. Visitors can watch pilots ride thermals off the bluffs on calm, clear days.

  • Mountain Biking Trails Moderate
    RV parking available

A network of singletrack trails on the mountaintop is open to mountain bikes and provides rolling, shaded riding with rim views. Trailhead parking is available near the campground and visitor center.

  • Swimming Pool and Picnic Areas
    RV parking available

The park operates a seasonal swimming pool and maintains multiple picnic pavilions built by the CCC. These areas are popular for families staying in the campground during warm-weather months.

How to get to Mount Nebo State Park

The park is approximately five miles west of Dardanelle, about 75 miles northwest of Little Rock and roughly 65 miles east of Fort Smith, via Interstate 40 and Arkansas Highway 7 or 22 to Highway 155. Highway 155 is the only road onto the mountain and features a series of steep switchbacks with tight hairpin turns, so large motorhomes and long trailers should use low gear, check brakes, and travel slowly. Arkansas State Parks advises that some long RVs and trailers may have difficulty navigating the grade, so RV renters should confirm their rig size before booking. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock.
