Late spring through early fall, roughly May to September, is the prime window for RV trips to Paint Creek State Park. Summer brings warm temperatures ideal for swimming at the beach, boating, and lake fishing, though weekends and holidays draw the largest crowds. Shoulder months of May, September, and October offer milder weather, easier campsite availability, and colorful hardwood foliage in the surrounding hills. Winter visits are quieter with limited facilities, so RVers should confirm which loops and services remain open in the off-season.
Cold winter month; campground services may be limited.
Cold, occasional snow; limited off-season facilities.
Variable early spring weather and muddy trails.
Shoulder season; mild days and frequent rain showers.
Comfortable camping weather as the full season opens.
Warm and humid; peak season begins, reserve early.
Hottest month; peak lake and beach use.
Hot, humid, and busy on weekends.
Pleasant shoulder season with thinner crowds.
Fall foliage peaks, crisp nights, great RV weather.
Late fall; many seasonal services begin winding down.
Cold winter conditions; limited winter camping services.
Paint Creek Lake is the recreational centerpiece of the park, offering unlimited-horsepower boating, water skiing, and fishing for bass, crappie, catfish, and saugeye. Public boat ramps and a marina on the lake provide easy launch access, and RV day-use parking is available near the ramps.
The sandy public swim beach on Paint Creek Lake is a summer hub for families staying in the campground. Changing facilities, picnic areas, and a nearby parking lot with space for larger vehicles make it convenient for RV day visits.
Paint Creek offers several miles of hiking trails that traverse wooded ridges, meadows, and lake overlooks. Trails range from short nature walks near the campground to longer routes connecting picnic areas and the lakeshore.
The park maintains multi-use trails open to mountain biking and horseback riding through rolling southern-Ohio woodlands. Trailheads are accessible by vehicle, with room to park a tow vehicle after dropping an RV at camp.
Dedicated bridle trails and an equestrian camp area make Paint Creek popular with riders who bring their own horses. RVers towing horse trailers should confirm equestrian-site availability in advance through the Ohio State Parks reservation system.
The park preserves historic cabins and a pioneer farm site that illustrate 19th-century life in the Paint Creek valley. The living-history area is open seasonally and is a short, level walk from a day-use parking area.
Hopewell Culture National Historical Park, about 30 minutes east near Chillicothe, protects massive prehistoric earthworks built by the Hopewell culture. The visitor center and Mound City Group have bus and RV parking, making it an easy add-on from a Paint Creek basecamp. nps.gov/hocu/
Shirley was amazing to work with!! We had rented another camper from a different host (Joey) on this site and when we arrived at the campsite there was no camper! Shirley swooped in in the eleventh hour to save us! She bent over backwards to accommodate us so our weekend wasn’t ruined!! Her communication was top notch and the camper was exactly what we needed! THANK YOU SHIRLEY!!! Highly recommend!
