Late June through early September offers the warmest weather, full campground services, and an open swim beach, making it the prime window for RV travel. September into early October brings cooler nights, fewer bugs, and fall foliage along the lake, which is ideal for shoulder-season trips. May and early June can be muddy on trails and buggy with blackflies, but campsites are easier to book. The campground typically operates from spring through mid-fall, so winter visits are day-use only.

South Mountain is a moderate hike to a restored fire tower with panoramic views of southern New Hampshire and, on clear days, the Atlantic coast. Trailhead parking near Reservation Road can fit smaller RVs and tow vehicles, and the round trip is roughly two miles.
The Boulder Field is a cluster of massive glacial erratics, some larger than a house, set in mossy forest along a short loop trail. It is a destination for sightseers, geology fans, and bouldering climbers who tackle established problems on the rocks.
Pawtuckaway Lake offers calm, island-dotted paddling that suits canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards. Boat launches inside the park provide direct access, and the shoreline includes coves, marshes, and remote campsites reachable only by water.
The main beach is a sandy swim area on Pawtuckaway Lake with picnic tables, restrooms, and a seasonal lifeguard. Day-use parking lots are large enough for tow vehicles and most RVs, making it an easy lunch stop between hikes.
North Mountain is a quieter peak reached by a network of woods roads and singletrack popular with hikers and mountain bikers. Expect rolling terrain, rocky sections, and partial views from open ledges near the summit.
This shoreline loop follows wetlands and beaver ponds on the eastern side of the park, with chances to spot herons, turtles, and waterfowl. The route is mostly flat and family friendly, with several short footbridges.
Pawtuckaway has miles of multi-use trails and old woods roads that draw mountain bikers from across the Seacoast region. Terrain ranges from smooth doubletrack near the campground to technical, root-strewn singletrack farther into the park.
Very nice camper had everything we needed and plenty of space.

Pawtuckaway State Park, NH, United States
The park is in Nottingham, New Hampshire, about 25 miles southeast of Concord, 25 miles west of Portsmouth, and 30 miles northwest of Manchester, each roughly a 35 to 45 minute drive. Most RVers arrive via NH Route 101 to Route 156, then follow signs on local roads to the main entrance at Mountain Road. The access roads inside the park are paved but narrow with tight turns and low tree branches in places, so very large rigs should drive slowly and confirm site length before booking. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (MHT), with Boston Logan (BOS) about 60 miles south.
