The park is 105 km southwest of Edmonton via Alberta Highway 2 South and Highway 13 West, approximately 1.5 hours by vehicle, and 45 km west of Wetaskiwin. Edmonton International Airport, about 90 minutes away, serves those arranging fly-and-rent RV trips. A scenic 12-kilometer loop trail follows the lake shoreline and winds through mixed forest with minimal elevation gain. The well-groomed, grassy path offers water views and is accessible to most fitness levels. The trail is groomed for cross-country skiing during winter.
Pigeon Lake supports pike, perch, lake whitefish, burbot, and walleye. Fishing licenses are required for most anglers (available through AlbertaRELM or retail partners). The boat launch provides access for shore and boat fishing.
Designated swimming beaches at Pigeon Day Use and Zeiner Day Use areas provide safe water access. A lifejacket loaner station at the boat launch supports water safety.
Pigeon Lake's 6,800 acres offer ample space for motorized boats, canoes, and kayaks. A full boat launch facility supports water access and recreation. Paddlers can explore the lake shoreline and coves.
The park is home to moose, deer, coyotes, and smaller mammals, and serves as an important stopover for migrating birds including waterfowl, waders, shorebirds, and raptors. Early morning walks offer the best wildlife viewing.
During winter, the park's 12-kilometer trail system is groomed for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Winter camping sites with power allow visitors to enjoy outdoor activities year-round.
Winter visitors can fish on the frozen lake for pike, walleye, and perch. Ice fishing licenses are required; consult Alberta Guide to Sportfishing Regulations for current rules and species availability.
