The park's signature attraction is the aerial tramway linking the plateau to Mountain Creek Lodge on the river. The tram treats visitors to a panoramic aerial view of the gorge while descending via cable tram over 1,000 vertical feet to the valley floor. Paved parking at the upper tram station accommodates RVs and tow vehicles. nps.gov/articles/getaway-blue.htm
A classic Appalachian river-gorge trail accessed from the base of the tram. This hiking and biking trail follows the route of early Americans who used the river gorge to navigate the rugged landscape, meandering along the river's bank for 9.5 miles with a chance to spot wildlife such as black bears and wild turkeys. nps.gov/places/bluestone-turnpike-trail.htm
A guided walk along the Bluestone River begins at the tram base. Meet a ranger at the bottom of the tramway at Pipestem Resort State Park to walk within Bluestone National Scenic River for a mile and return; the hike is a fairly easy walk along the Bluestone River with a few small hills and some rough footing. nps.gov/places/bluestone-turnpike-trail.htm
The park is home to two courses, the championship 18-hole Pipestem Course and the shorter 9-hole Woodland Course. Both are walk-on friendly from the main campground and lodge area. Pro shop and cart rentals are on site.
A network of shorter trails at the base of the gorge links to the main river corridor. On the south end in Pipestem Resort State Park, the Bluestone Turnpike Trail junctions with Farley Loop Trail and River Trail, accessed from the Mountain Creek Lodge at the base of the tram. nps.gov/places/bluestone-turnpike-trail.htm
Guided trail rides operate from the park stables during the warm season, winding through woodlands on the plateau. Rides are family-friendly and suitable for beginners. The stable area has vehicle parking suitable for trucks and tow rigs.
Pipestem's indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts, and amphitheater are clustered near McKeever Lodge at the park's core. It is a convenient rainy-day and family option a short walk from many campground loops. Large paved lots make access easy for RV guests.
Long Branch Lake offers quiet, electric-motor-only fishing for bass and trout on the plateau. A short trail circles the lake and there is a small fishing pier. Parking is suitable for tow vehicles and smaller motorhomes.
The RV was very nice and clean. Communication was good. Overall good experience.

What a fantastic experience for us first time RVers! Levi was so patient in explaining everything to us. He even made a special trip to help us out with something we didn't understand. The setup and pack up was easier than expected. The RV was just the right size for us. We look forward to doing this again!

Pipestem Resort State Park, WV, United States
The park sits off WV Route 20 in southern West Virginia, roughly a 45-minute drive from Beckley and about 30 minutes from Princeton. From I-64 take exit 139, then south on WV 20; Pipestem is 22 miles. From I-77 take exit 14 to WV 20 north and Pipestem is 14 miles. WV 20 is a winding two-lane highway with mountain grades and tight curves, so large motorhomes and trailers should plan for slower travel and use engine braking on descents. The nearest commercial airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Raleigh County Memorial Airport (BKW) in Beckley, with larger service out of Charleston (CRW) about 90 minutes north.
