Mid-June through August is the prime window, when days are long, road conditions are dry and the campground is fully open for RV travel. Late June and early July bring close to 24 hours of daylight for paddling and fishing, while August offers slightly cooler nights and fewer bugs. Early September is a strong shoulder choice for aurora viewing as nights darken, but travellers should expect frost, reduced services and possible early closures.

Reid Lake offers sheltered canoe and kayak paddling among rocky shoreline and small islands. The lake is a popular launch point for longer canoe trips into the Cameron River and surrounding waterways. A hand launch is available near the campground.
Anglers fish Reid Lake for northern pike and lake trout from shore or small boats. A valid NWT sport fishing licence is required. The lake is a convenient stop for RV travellers exploring the Ingraham Trail fishery.
Cameron Falls Trail is a short hike off the Ingraham Trail that leads to a rocky overlook of a powerful waterfall on the Cameron River. The out-and-back route includes boardwalks and stairs. Trailhead parking accommodates vehicles including shorter RVs.
This trail follows the Cameron River to a series of ramparts and cascades, offering classic Canadian Shield scenery. The route is rocky and uneven in sections. It provides a longer hiking option for visitors basing at Reid Lake.
The park has a sandy swimming area and day-use facilities on the lakeshore. Water warms into a comfortable range by mid-summer. Picnic tables and pit toilets support short visits without staying overnight.
Reid Lake sits well outside the light footprint of Yellowknife, making it a strong spot for aurora borealis viewing in late summer and early autumn. Open lake views give a wide northern horizon. Bring warm layers, as temperatures drop sharply after dark.
The surrounding boreal forest and Shield terrain support blueberries, cranberries and a variety of birds and small mammals. Summer visitors often spot loons, bald eagles and beavers. Always store food securely, as black bears are present in the area.

Reid Lake Territorial Park, NT, Canada
Reid Lake lies at the eastern end of the Ingraham Trail (Highway 4), about 60 kilometres northeast of Yellowknife, roughly a one hour drive on paved and chip-sealed surfaces. Yellowknife is reached from the south via Highway 3 from Fort Providence and the Deh Cho region, a long remote drive with limited fuel stops, narrow shoulders and wildlife on the road, so RV drivers should plan fuel and rest stops carefully. The Ingraham Trail itself is generally RV friendly but has rolling grades, narrow curves and no services past the Yellowknife area. Yellowknife Airport (YZF) is the nearest airport for fly-and-rent travellers.
