Best time to visit Robbers Cave State Park

Spring months from April through early June bring mild temperatures, green forests, and flowing creeks, making them ideal for hiking and RV camping. Fall, especially mid-October through early November, is another favorite window thanks to colorful hardwood foliage and cooler nights. Summer is warm, humid, and busy with families using the swimming area and lakes, so reserve early. Winter is quiet and generally open for camping, but overnight freezes can affect water hookups.

  • Robbers Cave and Cave Trail Moderate
    RV parking available

The Cave Trail leads from a dedicated trailhead parking area up to the sandstone outcrops and caves that give the park its name. The short but rocky climb rewards visitors with panoramic views of the surrounding Sans Bois Mountains. RV-friendly parking is available at the lower lot below the cave area.

  • Lake Carlton Easy
    RV parking available

Lake Carlton is the park's central lake, offering a designated swim beach, fishing piers, and paddle craft rentals in season. A boat ramp and day-use lots accommodate trucks with trailers as well as smaller RVs. Shoreline picnic areas make it a convenient stop between campground loops.

  • Lake Wayne Wallace Easy
    RV parking available

Lake Wayne Wallace is the larger of the park's two main lakes and is popular for bass fishing and non-gasoline boating. A boat ramp and parking area serve anglers launching kayaks, canoes, and small craft. Shoreline trails connect the lake to nearby campsites.

  • Rough Canyon Trail Strenuous

Rough Canyon Trail winds through boulder fields, pine forest, and seasonal creeks on the park's rugged north side. Expect uneven footing, stream crossings, and elevation changes as the route climbs toward scenic overlooks. The trailhead has parking suitable for tow vehicles and shorter RVs.

  • Mountain Bike and Equestrian Trails Moderate
    RV parking available

Robbers Cave offers miles of shared-use trails open to mountain bikers and horseback riders across forested ridges and canyons. A dedicated equestrian campground and staging area accommodate horse trailers and larger rigs. Trails range from rolling singletrack to rocky, technical climbs.

  • Nature Center and Interpretive Programs Easy
    RV parking available

The park nature center features exhibits on local wildlife, geology, and the outlaw history tied to the cave system. Rangers offer seasonal interpretive programs, guided hikes, and junior ranger activities. Paved parking at the center accommodates most RVs.

  • Rock Climbing and Bouldering Strenuous
    RV parking available

The sandstone bluffs around the cave area draw climbers for top-roping and bouldering on established routes. Climbers should check current park guidance and practice Leave No Trace on the fragile rock. Day-use lots near the cave area provide the closest access.

  • Fishing on Coon Creek Lake Easy
    RV parking available

Coon Creek Lake is a quieter fishing spot tucked within the park, stocked with bass, catfish, and panfish. Bank fishing access and a small launch serve paddlers and anglers with light boats. An Oklahoma fishing license is required for adult anglers.

Robby was very helpful and communicated well when needed. This was my 1st experience. He made it very easy and stress free. Even took the time to make sure the a/c was kicking due to Oklahomas good ol heat and humidity. Great way to kick off our family reunion hosted by the 70th annual OKMULGEE Roy LeBlanc invitatal Rodeo! Sorry no pictures. Only a couple of videos. We lived in the moment!
