Late June through early September offers the warmest weather, full campground operations, and ideal conditions for swimming and boating on the St. Lawrence River. July and August are peak months with the busiest campground occupancy, so reservations are strongly recommended. Shoulder seasons in May, early June, and September bring cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and excellent fishing, though some facilities may operate on reduced schedules. The campground typically closes in mid-October and reopens in mid-May.

The Eisenhower Lock viewing deck is a short drive from the park and offers close-up views of ocean-going freighters passing through the St. Lawrence Seaway. Interpretive signs explain how vessels are raised and lowered between water levels. Paved parking accommodates RVs and trailers.
The park's sandy beach on the St. Lawrence River is the main summer draw for families. Lifeguards are on duty during posted hours in the peak season, and a bathhouse with changing facilities is nearby. Day-use parking is within walking distance of the beach.
The park's nature center features exhibits on the St. Lawrence River ecosystem, local wildlife, and the engineering history of the Seaway and power project. Rangers lead seasonal interpretive programs. Parking is available on-site.
Several miles of wooded and shoreline trails wind across Barnhart Island, suitable for walking, jogging, and biking. Routes are mostly flat with gentle grades, making them accessible for most visitors. Trailhead parking is available inside the park.
A double-lane boat launch provides access to the St. Lawrence River, known for trophy walleye, bass, northern pike, and muskellunge. Shoreline fishing is also popular near the dam outflow. A New York State fishing license is required.
The park sits along the Seaway Trail National Scenic Byway, which follows the St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario shoreline. RVers can make day trips east to Massena landmarks or west toward Ogdensburg and the Thousand Islands. Several pullouts and parks along the route accommodate larger vehicles.
Robert Moses State Park hosts an 18-hole disc golf course set in the mixed woodlands of Barnhart Island. The terrain is mostly level with shaded fairways, suitable for beginners and experienced players. Parking is near the first tee.

Ellis and Michael were absolutely fantastic hosts to deal with from start to finish. The RV was in excellent condition, spotless upon arrival, and equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Michael went above and beyond by delivering the RV directly to our site, setting it up completely, and walking us through how everything worked. All the amenities functioned perfectly, and the space was exactly as described. Our family had an amazing time and created wonderful memories thanks to their care and attention. I would highly recommend this RV and these hosts to anyone looking for a stress-free and enjoyable getaway.

Robert Moses State Park, NY, United States
The park is about 10 minutes from Massena via NY Route 37 and the Robinson Bay Road causeway onto Barnhart Island. Drivers from Syracuse can reach the park in roughly 2.5 to 3 hours via I-81 North and NY Route 37, while Ottawa, Ontario is about 1.5 hours away through the Seaway International Bridge at Cornwall. RVers should note the bridge crossing involves a customs checkpoint if entering from Canada, and low-clearance overpasses exist on some local roads, so follow designated truck and RV routes. The nearest airports for fly-and-rent trips are Ogdensburg International and Syracuse Hancock International.
