Late May through September is the prime window, when the campground is open and daytime temperatures are comfortable for hiking the nature trail and relaxing under the pines. June and September offer lighter crowds and cooler nights, making them ideal shoulder seasons for RV travel. July and August bring peak family-vacation traffic to nearby Wisconsin Dells, so reservations should be made well in advance. The campground typically closes in early October, after which the park remains open for day use only.

Rocky Arbor Nature Trail is a roughly 1-mile self-guided loop that winds through the park's signature sandstone outcrops and mature white and red pines. The trail is mostly flat with a few gentle grades and wooden stairs, making it accessible for most visitors. Trailhead parking near the picnic area accommodates standard vehicles and towed cars detached from RVs.
The day-use picnic area sits under a canopy of mature pines with tables, grills, and shelter space. It's a quiet alternative to the crowded picnic spots in Wisconsin Dells. Parking is suitable for tow vehicles; larger motorhomes should use the campground lot.
Rocky Arbor's deeply wooded campground offers darker skies than the illuminated Dells strip nearby. Campers can enjoy quiet campfire evenings and occasional ranger-led programs during peak season. Firewood must be purchased locally to comply with Wisconsin invasive-pest rules.
Mirror Lake State Park is a short drive south of Rocky Arbor and offers swimming, paddling, and additional hiking on a calm, no-wake lake. It also has the nearest state-park dump station for RV travelers basing at Rocky Arbor. A Wisconsin State Park admission sticker works at both parks.
Rocky Arbor sits just minutes from the Wisconsin Dells tourism district, with boat tours of the Wisconsin River dells, water parks, and the historic downtown. Using the state park as a quieter basecamp lets RVers sidestep the more expensive commercial campgrounds in town. Public parking lots in the Dells accept most tow vehicles but are tight for full-size motorhomes.
Devil's Lake State Park, about 25 to 30 miles south near Baraboo, features 500-foot quartzite bluffs and nearly 30 miles of hiking trails around a 360-acre lake. It is one of Wisconsin's most scenic parks and is a popular full-day excursion from a Rocky Arbor basecamp. Large trailhead lots can handle tow vehicles and shorter RVs.
The park's mix of pine forest, sandstone ledges, and shaded ravines supports warblers, woodpeckers, white-tailed deer, and small mammals. Early mornings along the nature trail are most productive. Binoculars are recommended; no dedicated wildlife blinds are present.
Simply Amazing and super accommodating. I had a very moving schedule due to weather and was flying own aircraft to the site of delivery. Handled my movements and requests graciously and is super lovely RV. Was perfect for our needs and owner is exceptional.

Rocky Arbor State Park, WI, United States
Rocky Arbor State Park is located on US Highway 12, about 1.5 miles northwest of downtown Wisconsin Dells. It is roughly a 1-hour drive (about 50 miles) from Madison via I-90/94 and about 2.5 to 3 hours (around 150 miles) from Milwaukee or Chicago suburbs. RV drivers should note that US 12 and the park entrance road are straightforward with no tunnels or major grades, but the interior campground loop has narrow, tree-lined sites that can be tight for longer rigs. The nearest commercial airport for fly-and-rent trips is Dane County Regional Airport (MSN) in Madison.
