Late June through early September is the prime window, with warm, mostly dry weather, all campground loops open, and full access up Spirit Lake Highway to the Coldwater Lake and Hummocks areas. Shoulder months of May, early June, and late September bring fewer crowds and easier reservations, though rain is more frequent and some monument facilities may operate on reduced hours. Winter visits are possible because the park stays open year-round, but expect cold, wet conditions and possible snow at higher elevations along SR-504.
Cold and very wet; campground open with limited services.
Wet winter conditions; SR-504 may have snow at upper viewpoints.
Cool and rainy shoulder season.
Spring rains; wildflowers begin around the park.
Mild and increasingly dry; good shoulder-season window for RVers.
Pleasant; reservations fill quickly for weekends.
Peak season; book well in advance.
Warm and dry; high demand and possible fire restrictions.
Quieter shoulder-season visits with cool evenings.
Fall colors arrive; rain increases.
Wet and cool; fewer campers.
Cold and rainy; campground open year-round, day-use trails wet.
The state-run Mount St. Helens Visitor Center sits directly across SR-504 from Seaquest and is reachable on foot via a pedestrian tunnel. Exhibits cover the 1980 eruption, regional geology, and ecosystem recovery, with a boardwalk extending into Silver Lake's wetlands.
Seaquest contains several miles of forested hiking trails through second-growth conifer woods. Loops are mostly flat to gently rolling, suitable for casual walks straight from the campground.
Silver Lake is a shallow lake known for largemouth bass, crappie, and trout. Public access points along SR-504 accommodate canoes, kayaks, and small fishing boats.
Coldwater Lake, formed by the 1980 eruption, sits near the current end of the drivable section of SR-504. The picnic and boating area offers paved parking, a boat launch, and the short Birth of a Lake interpretive trail with views of the blast zone.
The Hummocks Trail is a 2.3-mile loop along SR-504 that winds through mounds of debris left by the 1980 landslide. It is mostly level with interpretive signs and trailhead parking that accommodates RVs.
The seasonal Forest Learning Center along SR-504, operated by Weyerhaeuser, highlights forest recovery and replanting after the eruption. The site features interpretive exhibits, a Roosevelt elk viewing area, and large vehicle parking.
The wetlands fringing Silver Lake support herons, ospreys, bald eagles, and waterfowl. Boardwalks at the visitor center provide quiet vantage points only a short walk from the campground.

What a great experience!!! They have everything you can want in the rental and are super friendly and accommodating. I've owned several RV's and rented dozens and this was an easy process from the start. We will be looking to rent from them again.

I am so happy that we chose to rent from Andrey. We went on a 13 day trip with our 3 small kids, when we picked the RV up it was IMMACULATE. So clean, smelled amazing, and fully stocked with everything we could have needed. Even down to camp chairs for our kids. We had zero issues with it on our long trip, communication with the host was amazing, and I could not recommend him enough. Best experience ever!

Seaquest State Park, WA, United States
Seaquest sits about 5 miles east of Castle Rock and Interstate 5 (Exit 49) along State Route 504, roughly a 2 hour drive from Seattle (about 130 miles north) and 1 hour from Portland, Oregon (about 50 miles south). RV drivers should note that Johnston Ridge Observatory is currently unreachable due to a 2023 landslide that closed both lanes of State Route 504, so the drivable end-of-road destinations are now the Coldwater Lake area and Hummocks Trail near milepost 43-45. SR-504 east of the park climbs steadily with sustained grades, sweeping curves, and limited turnarounds, so trailers and larger motorhomes are best left at the campground when day-tripping deep into the monument. There are no tunnels or low clearances on the I-5 approach. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Portland International Airport (PDX), about 75 miles south.
