Late June through early October is the prime window, when meadows are green, wildflowers are blooming, and the access road and mowed paths are dry. Mid-September to early October brings peak fall foliage across the Northeast Kingdom and is the most popular time to visit. July and August offer the warmest weather and longest days, though afternoon thunderstorms are possible. Shoulder months of May and November can be muddy or icy, and the park is not maintained for winter RV access.

A short walk across open meadow leads to Sentinel Rock, the glacial erratic boulder that gives the park its name. The route is mostly flat on mowed grass and offers sweeping views toward Lake Willoughby and Burke Mountain.
A network of mowed paths loops through hayfields and past stone walls from the former hillside farm. It is a quiet, family-friendly walk with wildflowers in summer and foliage views in fall.
The open hilltop is a prime Northeast Kingdom foliage viewpoint in late September and early October. Photographers come for wide panoramas over Willoughby Gap framed by Mount Pisgah and Mount Hor.
Visitors can spread out in the meadows with a packed lunch and long-range mountain views. Facilities are minimal so bring water, shade, and pack out all trash.
The mix of meadow, edge habitat, and surrounding forest attracts songbirds, raptors, deer, and moose in the greater Willoughby region. Dawn and dusk are the best times to spot wildlife.
Lake Willoughby is a short drive from the park and offers swimming beaches, paddling, and fjord-like cliff views. It pairs well with a morning visit to Sentinel Rock.
Nearby Mount Pisgah rises above Lake Willoughby with a steep summit trail and dramatic cliff overlooks. Trailhead parking off Route 5A is tight for larger RVs, so scout before parking.

Nous avons été enchantés par l’accueil, la disponibilité et l’hospitalité de Renée. Le VR est très bien équipé. Nous y avons passé 2 nuits dans les cantons de l’est avec notre poilu et recommencerons!
