Late spring through early fall, roughly May to September, offers the warmest, driest weather and the most reliable winds that make the Gorge famous with windsurfers. July and August are peak season with the warmest temperatures and the busiest campground, so reservations are recommended well in advance. Shoulder months like May, June, and September bring fewer crowds, green hillsides, and active waterfalls along the nearby Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail. Winter visits are possible but cold, wet, and sometimes icy, with strong east winds common in the Gorge, and the campground is typically closed during the winter season.

Jesse was always available to assist in anything we needed. We took the RV for a ten day trip to Banff and back and the trip went smoothly. I was most impressed with the turning circle of the Winnebago compared with other RVs we have rented in the past. I would recommend this RV to anybody looking for a comfortable road trip and a smooth experience.

Jesse was super responsive and helpful throughout the whole process and even after drop off. There was an issue with the table (we broke it-oops) and we worked through it with no problems.

Viento State Park, OR, United States
Viento State Park sits directly off Interstate 84 in the Columbia River Gorge, about 8 miles west of Hood River and roughly 60 miles (about one hour) east of Portland. RV drivers should watch for strong crosswinds through the Gorge, narrow I-84 shoulders, and limited turnaround space at the park exit, which is accessed from both eastbound and westbound ramps. Travelers heading east from Portland can also enjoy portions of the Historic Columbia River Highway, though some segments have tight curves, low clearances, and length limits unsuitable for larger RVs. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Portland International Airport (PDX), about 70 miles west.
