Late June through August offers the warmest weather, swimmable Lake Michigan water, and the fullest range of open facilities. September brings cooler nights, fewer biting insects, thinner crowds, and early fall color along the shoreline. Late May and early October are good shoulder windows for RVers who want quieter loops, though lake winds can be cold. Winter visits are possible for cross-country skiing and ice fishing, but expect snow-covered roads and limited services.

The park's sandy Green Bay beach is the centerpiece for swimming, sunbathing, and shoreline walks. Day-use parking is close to the beach and accommodates tow vehicles after the RV is set up at camp.
Several miles of marked trails wind through cedar swamp, hardwood forest, and shoreline bluffs. Loops connect the campground to the Big Cedar River and Lake Michigan, making it easy to hike directly from a campsite.
Kayakers and canoeists put in along the Big Cedar River where it meets Green Bay. The protected river mouth is calmer than the open lake and good for beginner paddlers.
Anglers cast from the Lake Michigan beach and the river for smallmouth bass, walleye, northern pike, and perch. A Michigan fishing license is required.
The mix of forest, river, and Great Lakes shoreline attracts white-tailed deer, bald eagles, songbirds, and migratory waterfowl. Early morning along the trails offers the best viewing.
In winter, the park's hiking trails convert to ungroomed cross-country ski and snowshoe routes. Day-use parking remains plowed near the entrance off M-35.
Historic frontier-style log cabins sit tucked along the shoreline and are reservable through the Michigan DNR. Day-use picnic shelters near the beach are open to all visitors.

Wells State Park, MI, United States
The park sits on M-35 between Menominee and Escanaba in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. From Menominee it is roughly a 25-mile, 30-minute drive north on M-35; from Escanaba it is about 35 miles south, around 45 minutes; from Green Bay, Wisconsin it is approximately 75 miles, about 1 hour 30 minutes. M-35 is a paved two-lane shoreline highway with no tunnels or steep mountain grades, making it RV-friendly, though drivers should watch for deer and narrow shoulders. The closest commercial airports for fly-and-rent trips are Delta County Airport in Escanaba and Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport.
