Late May through early October is the prime window for RV camping at West Branch, when the campground is fully open and the reservoir is warm enough for swimming and watersports. July and August bring the busiest weekends and peak boating traffic, so midweek stays offer quieter sites. September and early October deliver cooler nights, fall color along the shoreline, and easier campsite availability. The campground typically closes for the winter season from late fall through early spring, so plan RV trips between April and October.

Kirwan Reservoir is an unlimited-horsepower lake of roughly 2,650 acres, making it one of the most popular boating destinations in northeast Ohio. Multiple launch ramps with RV-friendly trailer parking provide easy access, and a seasonal marina offers slips, fuel, and supplies.
A single-track mountain bike trail system winds through the forested south side of the park and is maintained by local volunteer groups. Trailhead parking accommodates vehicles with bike racks and short trailers.
Kirwan Reservoir is stocked with muskellunge and walleye and also holds healthy populations of largemouth bass, crappie, and channel catfish. Shore fishing access is available at several day-use areas with paved parking.
A public swim beach on the reservoir offers a sandy shoreline, changing facilities, and shaded picnic areas. It is a short drive from the campground and has a large day-use parking lot suitable for tow vehicles.
A segment of Ohio's statewide Buckeye Trail passes through West Branch, offering out-and-back day hikes along the reservoir and through mature hardwoods. Trailhead pull-offs provide space for standard tow vehicles.
The park includes a dedicated network of bridle trails on its northern side, popular with equestrians and also open to hikers. A staging area with large vehicle parking supports horse trailers and trucks.
Multiple picnic areas line the reservoir with tables, grills, and shelters available on a first-come basis. Several lots are sized for longer vehicles and make good lunch stops during travel days.
