April through early June and September through October are the most comfortable windows for RV travel, with mild daytime temperatures, warm lake water, and lower humidity than midsummer. July and August bring peak crowds and hot, humid weather, so reservations fill early on weekends and holidays. Winter visitors enjoy quieter loops and easy site selection, though some amenities run on reduced hours.

The park's sandy swim beach on Lake Martin is the main day-use hub, with picnic tables, grills, and restrooms nearby. It is an easy walk from most campground loops and has paved parking that accommodates tow vehicles.
The full-service marina offers a public boat ramp, courtesy docks, fuel, and seasonal boat rentals for exploring Lake Martin. RV travelers often use the launch to put in kayaks, pontoons, or ski boats stored on a trailer.
Lake Martin is known for largemouth and spotted bass, crappie, and striped bass, with productive water just steps from many campsites. The park has a lighted fishing pier in addition to shoreline access points.
The park maintains several miles of multi-use trails winding through pine and hardwood forest near the lakeshore. Routes are mostly flat to gently rolling, suitable for casual hikers and families.
Wind Creek has hosted public stargazing programs on dark-sky nights, taking advantage of its relatively low light pollution for a lakeside park. Check the park's event calendar for current viewing sessions.
Calm coves around the park shoreline make Lake Martin a beginner-friendly destination for kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards. Seasonal rentals are available at the marina for visitors who did not bring their own boats.
The mix of lake, shoreline, and upland forest supports herons, ospreys, bald eagles, and a wide range of songbirds. Early mornings along quieter campground loops and shoreline trails are the best times to spot wildlife.

Wind Creek State Park, AL, United States
Wind Creek sits off Alabama Highway 128, about 7 miles southeast of Alexander City and roughly 60 miles (about 1 hour 15 minutes) northeast of Montgomery via US-231 and US-280. Birmingham is about 90 miles northwest, a drive of about 1 hour 45 minutes via I-65 and US-280. Roads into the park are generally flat with no mountain grades or tunnel restrictions, but the final county roads include some tight turns and low-hanging branches, so large Class A rigs should take them slowly. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Montgomery Regional Airport (MGM), with Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International (BHM) a popular alternative with more flight options.
